would a rear strut tower bar be redundant if one had a roll cage? i am not exactly sure where roll cages are commonly welded in 240's (s14 if that has any bearing). I imagine the front bar would still be useful regardless of roll cage or not. on the same subject, a rollcage would also make a doluck crossbar obsolete as well, correct? thanks!

Are you seriously considering putting a rollcage in your car? Or is this just for entertainment/trivia purposes? You should know, there are a couple different ways to build/install/mount various cages. Some will help with chassis rigidity, some are simply made to help prevent roof crumple/driver death. Some will do both if elaborate enough, I suppose. But then if you build an elaborate cage, your girlfriend will swear to never ride in your car again, as it will be near impossible for her to get in/out without her doing this strange birthing/squat-to-pee/very unlady-like manuever. You have been warned.

i am planning on installing one with the main focus being on saftey. i wont be doing door bars as that would make it extremly crappy to use as a daily driver. could anyone answer my original question?

so you wouldnt get a rollcage, because that would consist of door bars...you want a rollBAR which just saves you from breaking your neck if you roll the car, but wont help much in any other sort of accident (ie. safety).

but to answer your question...a roll cage does not connect at the strut tower bars, soa strut bar would still be beneficial, the rollcage also would not connect at the lower point behind the front seats, where the doluck bar doesn, but does have a halo, and therefore connect accross the top of the car, so the doluck bar wouldnt make nearly as much difference on a car w/out a rollcage.A 12 pt rolllcage is really the only style that adds handling balance and rigidity on top of safety of a 10pt or less cage, but 12 pt will run about $2000+.Most common is probrobly a 6 or 8 pt cage, but the bars do not then go through the firewall into the bay to help stiffen up suspension

how would the doluck bar make less of a difference if it was on a car without a rollcage? wouldnt the effect be less noticable in a car with a rollcage?

Personally, I'd go for a custom design. If you don't care to make entry and exit hard, I'd stay away from a full cage or design it so that the side bar is removable so you only need to use it during a race event. I'd have it welded in place rather than bolted and have a rear strut tower bar built in(S13 hatchback). If you go with a full cage, it might help to have the bars welded to the A pillar as well. Other parts too if you can. A cross bar can be added as part of this as well.

As far as chassis stiffness, most roll bars and cages will help stiffen the chassis. To what extent depends on overall design and the rigidity and location of the mounting points.

My focus would be on chassis stiffness. As long as it isn't designed to be more dangerous that not having it, the safety aspect will likely fall into place.
