Hello all,

I'm new to this forum but I'm looking to return my Q to better than its early years and need some advice.

I'm looking to replace the old suspension with coilovers. I saw posts of a strut tower bar and was wondering if that is needed for coilovers or if it would just be for show? Any advice would greatly help!!

No the strut bar is NOT needed for the coil overs. The bar makes a noticeable difference with the struts. The bar may make less of a difference given the coil overs are probably adjustable and will alter the feel quite significantly. The strut bar is more for physical appeal in my eyes. If you are looking at putting a decent set of coils on I would say go for it. Along with the rear stabilizer bar. Quite worth the small price if you can locate them. Usually can find them for $60-120 or cheaper if you pull them yourself. Try Felton auto in Snohomish WA. Got both of mine from them

^ Good stuff.

I, on the other hand, noticed a DEFINITE improvement in handling (especially initial turn-in) with a FSTB on my '95 Q. If you can find one, grab it.

If you are talking new I would go Yamato or Kamikaze. They are the top of the line before bags. Yamato would be preferred but they are about 3k. Kamikaze can be had for around 2k. If you want something a little less go with JIC for about $1500. K-break makes a set around $1200 but that would be the lowest I would go for a good set. There are also some American brands to be had

Also, I couldn't see someone getting a good set of coils without upgrading upper/lower arms and tie rods and ends... Essentially replacing every piece of the 23 year old suspension to get maximum ride out of a big item such as coil overs. If you want it done right go all the way. Be willing to spend 3-5k otherwise stick with some springs and rehab.

Lets get some pics of your car current and after!

^ Great advice.

I'm not convinced coilovers are the way to go on a Q. Active rear sway bar is a good investment.

Having never had coilovers, I can't speak to that... but I found the FTSB to be an improvement, and then switching to the active front and rear bars to really put the cherry on top. It takes so much "wag" out of the back of the car... just spend some tie playing with it after you bolt it all on, because the lack of warning roll can creep up on you until you get used to it.

The Stillen bar was definitely an eye catching handling improvement.
