after hearing all the sh*t bout the kyb strut mounts i am thinking about getting Moog or raybestos "professional grade" mounts , they are 56 each on rock auto. Anybody has any ideas? i might try OEM from a stealership too, jsut wanted some input first , thanks

I know nothing about the other brands other than what is advertised and advertising to me is a waste of time. But if the struts on your vehicle got at least 60,000 mile while driving the black top with no off roading then OEM stock or comparable after market should do.
The originals for my 97 QX4 lasted about 125 K Km, the next set lasted the same, the set now a Japanese built to the specs were a plug and play.

Just as long as they meet the OEM specifications.

When you dismantle them inspect closely for any breaks, the top plate, mounts and bearing need a close look at. The standard shocks seem good enough. The springs are good. If no breaks remove the springs and measure the unladen length, should meet spec, mine did.

Order all the parts you need, rebuild then one at a time, mark locations related to reinstall and that's it. You don't need to spend more money than you should. And buying a set completely built with springs is equal to buying a set of decompression tool.

A drift pin or round bar but tapered is best for locating the holes.

yeah, but i heard things can go horribly wrong when crappy strut mounts are used such as ones from kyb and moog and they all said "built to OE specs" . i was wondering what brands people went with

OK! I don't know the name but were Japanese made, come to think of it the OEM were made there too. This last set has been on the car for 3 months. The biggest difference from old to new is quiet, no banging, no rattle, the shocks front and back are OK, they do what they are supposed to do. Cost was less than OEM, quality seems the same, the metal work is good and they fit. Now some tie rods, and ball joints are crap.

I think you're mixing yourself with the wrong parts.... I guess you mean the strut bearing...not mounts.... The kyb strut bearing has been known to fail early...not the mount.... as far as i know...

These trucks chew up and spit out aftermarket parts. Stick to OEM when possible.
