Strut insulator problem? Does it matter?

So my car is at my mechanics place right now and he is telling me the bushing that goes in between the spring and car on top of the strut is cracked really bad. Is this a bad thing? I just got a quote from courtesy nissan and they want 44 dollars for each one! Thats a lot of money! Motor mount type money. Thats the price for the insulator. Thats not even the price for the seat and the seal that i guess should be replaced also. Thats totals to 145 bucks. What you guys think? Is there something better out there? Or do i have to buy these stock parts?
