Strut Clearance?

As a general rule of thumb...what are the minimum strut-to-wheel clearances that a person should run for both a stock and an aftermarket wheel/tire package? A stock tire will deflect during cornering more than a low-profile performance tire and require more clearance to do so without rubbing. But how much more?

put wheels on car, drive around, look at sidewall, if rubbing, put spacer. good sized wheels will have ample strut clearance anyway.
