Im gonna call JUN tmrw but i heard upwards of 2-3k for parts alone.. I wonder about how much potential this would give you. i've actually heard of a 3.5 VG30 stroke, but that was on a VG30DE. Yes, pointless. But still, imagine that kind of displacement matched up to some nice 500 sport turbos or even better, 700's. Can you say, low ten high nines?

2-3k... that would be nice.

Last I checked, the Jun stroker kit was $12,500.

My Z is going to have at least a 3.5 liter VG, upwards of 3.8... with boost...

I'll let everyone in on my pseudo-secret... SOHC VG, the VG33E to be exact. They have very thick walls, enough to pretty safely bore it to nearly 99 mm (I'd probably keep it around 98, that will put it at around the same thickness as the VG30). 98 mm results in right under 3,800 cc making a 3.8 liter VG. Yeah, you lose your DOHC heads but the SOHC heads can be made to flow plenty with a bit of work and with that kind of displacement should be able to take on a highly built VG30DE any day. With boost... there should be no contest.

On top of that, you can use VG30DETT rods (i.e. low cost aftermarket rods already made and on the shelf), and you get an engine that is very inexpensive, lots available, lighter and more compact than the DE(TT) and just as strong. You do lose the forged crank though no one has broken a VG30/33 crank from too much power yet and you do lose the oil squirters but those could be added (I'm looking into having that done on mine).

The only downside is there will be a lot of custom work that many may not like to do. For an NA application it won't be bad as all you have to mess with is the accessories (DE(TT) stuff won't work as the crank is slightly different and you can't swap cranks... at least not yet, I'm working on this).

If you go with a turbo setup you'll need to do custom manifolds and possibly a custom intake manifold depending on what you want.

Even with all of that though... I know for sure that the whole setup would be cheaper than that stroker kit alone and would give you much better benefits. I know not many would be interested in undertaking that setup but I'm currently working on mine so will keep those that may up to date. It should be awesome to say the least.

That does sound sick... And I called today.. they offer it a bit lower then 12,500. The 2-3k I was quoted on was for just the crank..my bad! But still, would be sick. One day..........

Not trrying to thread jack but;mtcookson are you not happy with the 450Z, tell me cause thats what I was saving up for. Would pobably be ready to start in the Fall but don't want to get involved in it if it's not worth it. I was wondering have you dyno'd it yet?

I just had a bit of a change in plans. I finally realized my red Z is going to be my daily... so I figured I'd rather keep the V6 fuel economy and put the VH in a black Z I have that will be completely stripped and caged and be a not-so-street-legal street car that I can thrash on the weekends and take racing every now and then. My VH project definitely isn't dead, just on hold for a bit till I get my daily going.

That's insane... if you could pick up the crank for 2,000-3,000 you could get custom rods and pistons made for probably around 2,000 or less.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it worth noting that (in theory) the weight savings would put the VH at around the same fuel economy of the VG after the swap.

Assuming a stock curb weight of ~4000 lbs for the q45 and ~3200 for the 300zx (more for turbo model).
