Ok. So I was installing the Stillen hood dampners today. Well when I'm putting the bracket on the headlight support and trying to tighten the bolt... it just keep spinning. The bolt isn't tightening. I know the HOLE is stripped and not the bolt because I switched the bolts from the passenger and driver's side, and the passenger side still tightens.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the bolt in photo 1 or 2 in the Stillen directions.

What would be the best way to correct this? Do I need to take a slightly larger drill bit and make a bigger hole and use a bigger bolt? Or should I just try my luck with locktite?

And yes Medi, I'm doing it your way. Rod down!

I did the EXACT same thing... Turned it that one last time and felt that horrible feeling of stripping

I ended up drilling out the hole and heli-coil

Heli-coils are little spring looking threaded inserts. I had the same problem on the drivers side, I used a tap and dye set and got myself a new screw.

I thought that I stripped one of the holes when I was installing the dampers but I just stripped the thread on the screw. I went to autozone to get a new one. You could try using a bolt and a nut. Just get a bolt thats a little thinner than the hole is and put a nut underneath it and tighten her up!

don't forget to use washers (lock washer if its appropriate for the situation) with the nut & bolt.

You guys are so smart. Why didn't I think of the bolt and nut... and washer of course.

I think I'm gonna go that easier route, unless my gf's dad has that tap and dye set on hand or has an easier solution for my problem tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

lock nut and washer.

lock nut= little rubber piece that prevents loosening. washer both sides lock washer or wavy washer.

if the bolt or nut loosens then it wont further damage the hole and spread the weigh across the washer and not directly onto the frame itself.

Good luck mate.
