Hi All,

Going to street park my car (M35) and wondering if you could recommend any products to help keep it safe.
I know bumper repairs and paint repairs can be expensive, but all told, I'll save around $1500 a year by parking it on the street in my city (baltimore).

Here are a few things I was thinking:

Bumper bully: http://www.amazon.com/PLATINUM-EDITION- ... mper+guard

bumper gaurds: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029 ... i=15684181

nu finish & wax

maybe tinting the windows for sun/theft protection.

Know anything that works well? I'm open to doing just about everything except adding a grill guard :))) http://www.fleetsafety.com/Push-Bumpers ... tries-1995

living in bmore you might want the grill guard for the front and rear. One of my friend's car got dented, scratched and all sorts of banged up living next to Canton.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I've been trying to find a pic of grill guards on an infiniti sedan, with no luck.

Middle of the night+pickaxe+quickcrete+heavy steel poles, at the corners of your parking spot :naughty:

You could insulate the panels from the frame with spacers and non-metalic or coated screws, and electrify them like a fence.... Depending on how conductive your paint is.

Why settle?

haha, definitely love the saran rap. That might take a bit too much time though, and if I'm in a hurry it could get old quick. :) :)

I think I'll try the euro bumper guard to start. Looks like dog crap, but it could save a 5-8k repair if the bumper is nailed. I live in a decent place (for the city), but every once in a while, you see a new car with a bumper cracked and hanging down. :/

I think your best protection is the best insurance you can afford, that covers EVERYTHING from theft to vandalism to hit and run to if your neighbor got pissy and had your car towed and they broke the steering lock... etc.

@mechanical

Agreed. I have pretty comprehensive insurance. Everyone really should with cars like these.

Street protection? Were the H do you live? Did you ever think of moving to a location that does not require street protection?

I'm going to grad school in the city. Sure I'd love to not live here, but until then, I've got to put up with bad drivers/parkers/vandals/etc..

^This. I envy you. But then again, I was smashed into last year (while parked in a nice suburban neighborhood) by a drunk driver.

Btw, you live near albany? I lived there for a while and I remember there were some awesome back country drives. :)

antzruz,

You are one piece of work and I don't mean that in a bad way. Loved the pic of the Les Baer. It looked a little customized to me. But mine is too. I have heads up laser point sight on it. One day down the road I am looking to get a Wilson. Talk about street protection, if I get a 3" or less 5 shot group that good enough for me. As for the original poster, I would buy a junker and park the nice machine some place safe instead of worrying bumper guards and such. I'd be more concerned about my Les and personal protection than my car getting damaged.

Yes sir.

I live in Selkirk. 10 miles from downtown Albany, but far enough from downtown Albany where every spring and fall I get that nice week long aroma of cow manure. :rotflmao

I've dealt with this too, I bought a bumper bully.

It does prevent the scratches but it doesn't prevent jerks from thinking it's an invitation to get closer to your bumper.

Yeah, I was a little afraid of that. I'll probably go with one anyway though. Thanks for your input. :)

Well guys, looks like I just have bad luck. Second hit and run in 12 months.

I'm pretty sure this was an old Volvo 850 with a funky angular bumper jutting out that did it. It matches the height of the dent. Their car was parked right behind me and had a total of about 1 foot of room on all sides. Police report submitted but I think I'm stuck. :/

That really sucks :(

People are usually better than that in Chicago. Sure, they'll touch the bumper sometimes, but they rarely ever cause any visible damage aside from some minor scratches. I've made it a habit to only park my car right behind a no parking zone so that other cars can only park behind me. I'd rather have scratches on the back bumper than a broken adaptive cruise sensor or worse...

My typical parking spot:

Yeah, I actually do the same. :) Just bad luck really. Fortunately, the bumper itself costs about $380, so I could have it fixed when I'm out of this "historic" Baltimore neighborhood.

I'm a little crafty though, so I've been thinking about ways to wire the front and back cameras to record to a terabyte hard drive upon motion, or something like that. Maybe I could sell it if it works out......
