What's a good exhaust that has good hp gains but not to loud that the cops are all over you?

Will I pass the emissions/smog test if i have an exhaust, header and intake installed in my car?

are turbos legal (i think they are but i want to make sure)?

i think he was being sarcastic, turbo's are legal, as long as the stuff that comes out the tailpipe is emissions legal, as for your question on teh exhaust, search please, as you will find these questions have been answered before and many opinions alredy mentioned, just as a personal preference, dual apexi n1s, as far as passing emissoins, do homeowork before you buy the parts to make sure they gurantee its emissions legal, obviously if u get a racing header and gain 2ohp to the wheels, hmm, chances are its not emissions legal

Well to tell you the truth I would definitely make sure the exhaust your gonna buy is legal to your state's statute. I live in Florida and I got an HKS Hiper exhaust. After doing some research, in Florida Assuming your car is made after 1979. Sound levels35 mph or less Speed limit 72dba over 35 mph 79 dbameasuring 50 ft away.Well talking to HKS they told me oh yeah its legal and stuff and I said show me documentation but only thing they sent me was it meets California statue of 95 dba measuring 20inches (I forgot). Then talking to my sister (she is a lawyer), she said judge is gonna just say well we are in Florida not Cali and blah and just make me look stupid. good thing I fought the ticket and cop didnt show up...so I was lucky.

i thought or heard... that usually when you have intake/headers/exhuast... you don't pass emissions., each part might say it is legal., but once combined with the other.. it become ilegal.. wether it being too loud or just not passing state emissions levels... but yea most states are different.,

go custom exhaust. the hp gain difference between exhausts is VERY minimal, assuming same diameter is used.

Actually, **** I got the statute here somewhere, the changing of exhausts is listed under modified exhaust to create noise. And basically states that any change in exhaust that increases the overall sound while driving is illegal.

I got nailed for it in conjunction with a racing on public highways ticket a few yrs back, at the then tradeport drags. I did alot of reasearch on it and the one he wrote down he wrote wrong... He wrote that ticket out as modified exhaust to create noise, but put a "tampering with emissions controll device" statute number down as they are simillar and he was a retard... "I have my reasons" so any LEO's step off, and have a nice day!! Any way, I got off as he submitted a delay of trial the friday before the monday hearing and it didnt go through, or got lost :) SO he didnt show, I won, then got a new trial date muhahaha which when I called didnt matter :) I havent attended a single illegal drag since btw though.

I havent got a single ticket on my N1 with stock secondary cat and HS header since... I have been pulled over in various counties for various things after that, and it never even came up though..

It depends on the state. Each state has different laws and regulations. Check your own state's laws for info.

In CA, you have to be able to pass a noise test that involves measuring it at 12" from the tailpipe. It has to be less than 95 dB.

As far as turbo, unless it came from the factory with California certification, or was added as part of a CARB exempt kit, it is not legal to drive the car with a turbo.

As far as exempt vehicles, California has a 30 year rolling smog exemption law. Basically, any car that is 30 years old(model year) or older will be exempt from having to pass a smog test. I'd have to double check the law, but I think it still may not be allowed to expell a certain amount of visible smoke.
