Is it Legal? in Cali? Sure it is. Hell the cop will just ask you for a ride and shoot the shyt with you about how wonderful motorswaping is. Then he will hold your hand and dance down the yellow brick road with you.

Worse case if the cop pops your hood he might just shoot you. The RB25 motor swap is very illegal and dangerious to the environmental plane of exsistance. If you drive a RB car in Cali monsters come out and attack people...... Stupid post isn't it? kinda like the question.

skypowereds13, if you took time to go back and search your question on old threads, youd see that this "Stupid" question has been asked and answered before. Also you shouldnt bash the regulars on this site, as it will drive them awaythanksJon V.

Can't we all be friends? I think admins needs to put right in the 240sx link "NOOBS SEARCH FIRST OR GET FLAMED!" or something in that manner.

alright kid

illegal-yes

the real worst case senario that could happen, if you get your hood popped by a cop who knows what he's looking at (which would suck) : they are going to impound your car. take it to a shop thats going to take it out. then they are going to give you a fee for impound, tow, release, and they are going to have you pay to have your motor takin out.

dont ask me how I know this but I do.

I live in sacramento and I daily drive my RB20. If your worried about having it taken then dont get it swapped or dont drive like an idiot.

o yah...

if you want to survive on this board dont ask any more questions. go through the posts and just read. If you come back and ask about motor mounts or how to wire your turbo timer your going to get flamed.

good luck

I have had my hood popped 3 times here in Orange County, and luckily none of the cops new what they were looking at. Usually they just see Nissan on the Coilpack Cover and assume it should be there. I think they are more familiar with SR20 swaps in the Nissan dept. Pretty much - stay away from shiny piping and make it look like it's supposed to be there. Don't do a hack job and have wires running all over the place or ECUs layin on your floorboard. And if he says anything, just say you bought it like that. Maybe it will work.

Its not like this hasn't been covered a million +1 times now. A simple search would have yielded all the information you need on the subject.

Just so you know, the motorswap is illegal anywhere in the USA. It is a federal law. Some states are just more into enforcement than others due to pollution and air quality problems.

I'm not the noob asking if a Skyline engine swap is legal in Cali, in fact I don't think I have ever asked such a stupid question before. I mean did nissan sell skylines here? Why would it be legal? Use your brain or better use this I usally don't flame people but when something this stupid comes up I can't help myself.

I think the only swaps which are legal are engines that are sold in the US from the same manufacturer and newer. I was told this once it could be wrong. It makes sense.

well it's my understanding that any engine thats not supposed to be there is illegal, but I think if your car is old enough like a hot rod or a classic you can have a diff motor without getting in trouble. i'm in illinois and i have the RB25DET in my 91 240sx and they don't say **** to me, even with my loud Tanabe exhaust.

maybe im gonna have to move out of cali then. i dont see myself living anywhere else though... i think im just gonna risk it all and do the swap anyways =/ hopefully they just tell me to take it out and not impound the car and charge me $435345 to get it back..

I believe in cali you can put a 300zx tt engine in your 240sx and it's legal.. only thing is the engine has to be same manufactor and be newer than the car..some one correct me if I'm wrong.

to all the cali people:

if you want to drive any type of swapped vehicle there is only one way.

1-register the car as a show car. this gives you permission to drive it 5000 miles a year

2-take out your speedo sensor so ur odometer doesnt roll

why...... isnt the rb a 6 cyl???... and...... the ka...... a 4 cyl????would the badges even fit????........ and...... how would you hide the ominous rb20/25/26 badge on the timing cover......okay im done being sarcastic..... listen youre in the wrong place to be asking about laws in cali.my suggestion, hire a lawyer (or ask one online) all your law questions before you start the swap. I had to hire one for my immigration papers, best 2k ever spent, gonna be an american in about a month.you want info on the rb? search the forum first, then carefully word your question, so you dont get flamed like freshmeat .....IMOthanks for coming outJan V.
