No, it definetly wont be. let me give you all some background information since I have time this time I post, sorry about being so vague I was just in a little bit of a hurry, also I didnt think it was okay to publicly post a link to another forum so I planned on starting a discussion here and possibly pm'ing people the link. I work for an emissions lab where people bring their euro market cars (merc benz's, lambos, ferraris, mclarens and mostly porsche 959's) to be certified for the US. On a one off basis, this is really expensive, in the 10's of thousands of dollars. But, my boss said CARB may be able to issue an executive order that would cover SR20's if its handled correctly.Is anyone interested in possibly paying a reasonable amount to have their cars able to be street legal so you arent freaking out every two years when smog comes around?The reason I want this is because I want to SR my car, and not have to freak out when smog comes around about finding someone, not to mention rules are getting harder about fudging a smog test and penalties are getting higher. Also I dont want to have to worry about getting my hood lifted if I get pulled over. We are planning on starting with SR's and seeing where it takes us from there.

The three SR's I've swapped all passed emissions, with flying colors...

All that's needed is a cat and a MUST, a 3" cat-back. The car will NOT pass without the exhaust. and timing set to stock at 15* advanced.

wow im glad NY state hasn't been cracking down on this.. I mean yea a few years ago NY passed that all 96 and up cars had to get an emission test along with a ecu hook up. so when they scan your vin number and they find out that you have a motor that didn't come factory in our cars in the US. or you can pay i think like 500 bucks and get a waver and drive completely legal.

Mack- we have been playing with this idea on Z ilvia. Most 95's are OBDI, so they'll be okay, since as far as I know OBDII was only required 1996 on. Our idea was to take the USDM B15 ECU and modify it to run the SR, and use the 1996 USDM Z32 ecu to power the RB's. OEM FTW! (if it will work)I think you and I should talk.

Hey thanks for the support and I finally figured out how to get this dumb thing to email me when people reply here. Um I was under the impression the B15's were COP. I cant find it now, but I found a pic of a few with Coil on Plug. If not, the newest generation Sentra may work, it even has VVT like the S14SR does. (No boost control tho...)Yea Fresh Alloy pretty much fails, I have had one reply there.

I may be wrong about the whole CoP thing. I've pretty much only worked on B13 sentras, and I remember them having distributers. I'll double check about the B15s just to be on the safe side.

Also, this is just me thinking out loud, but wasn't the big CARB issue the idle and cold start emissions? Which was really a big concern for us because the AIV system would have to be chopped up for steering column clearance.

I've seen SRs pass smog (minus AIV i assume) in the maryland area, but that's maryland emissions, not the gestapo emissions of CA. Since I'll be relocating to Northern VA soon (and consequently will be subject to NOVA emissions testing), I'm trying to do some additional research in what I need to get done to make sure my car will pass. So far, I figure an ECU reflash to help lean out on idle to compensate for the missing AIV will be the biggest factor since I kept my cat.

You are very wise my friend. I was hoping we could figure something out to keep AIV, if that is even necessary. We have done some significant tuning experience, including crazy MoTeC tuning and even legal harley tuning with lots of HP and no cats.Thanks for the support, besides here, and Z ilvia is pretty much the only forum that cares.

yes, you can pretty much do anything with the 95 and lower since they are not obd2 , that is what i have.

I I really dont know, I would certainly assume so, if Japan had a similar emissions progression compared to the US.

Joe, I was talking to a friend the other day about the CoP ignition in the B15. He says he's worked on a few that had CoP, but there were also a few he's seen that don't have it. So as long as your ECU is for an SE-R, you shoudl be ok
