I am at 130K miles on my 92 (purchased new) and have the same love/hate relationship as others. Presently I am in love, especially after a 200 mile run yesterday at 23.65 mpg (there must have been a tail wind)

Looking to the future, which parts should I consider for stockpiling and which just never seem to need replacing? The one motor that has failed has been the sunroof motor and I am aware of the transmission problem (I have had two replacements). I have, of course, had the chain guides replaced and have done routine maintenance as well as having all of the injectors changed after the second one failed 30K ago.

I remember reading a post years ago from Q45tech that sounded like he carries a spare car in his trunk (I believe there was a comment about how valuable is it to own a part if it is at home when you need it?)

So, those of you who plan on keeping your Q's for a while, and who have had them for a while, which parts fail (i.e., wiper motor, turn signal, wiper switch, other switches), which do you think you might need that would not be available in the future (i.e., MAF), which can and cannot be rebuilt (i.e., starter, transmission, alternator)? Headlamp assembly (because of lens fogging)?

Thanks for thinking about this.

What and how much of a difference does a 1990 Q45 Master cylinder make?

What is an "R&P Unit"?

ALSO I HAVE SOME OF THE ABOVE LISTED ITEMS IN CASE ANYONE WANTS SOME.

Gotta have the known good FPCU.

NICO ECU also.

Auxiliary ATF cooler.

New KS and harness.

All gaskets for IAC, EGR, TB, plenum, lower runners.

i agree with that list...

I would say though to narrow it down a bit more, most important things to have spares of are injectors, MAF (always carry a spare MAF with you) and an FPCU. I like to carry things with me that I could potentially replace on the side of the road (an injector is a stretch).

R&P is a rack & pinion - your steering

the first q45s back in 1989-90 had a master cylinder that is 1/16" larger diameter. You may have to search the archives to find the info. When ever I look under the hood of a parts car, I always check for the bigger master cylinder.

Not much demand for them, unless someone is upgrading there Q brakes and wants the biggest factory brake MC available that will bolt on.

You need what Magic Johnson uses to stay alive after all these years with HIV: A whole lot of cash.

Stock up on the stuff that will get you a discount by ordering in bulk, such as filters. The rest, just acquire as needed, or try to buy a clean wrecked Q45 and put it in your back yard (or front yard for those of you in Arkansas).

With stainless steel or 1990 Q45 lines?

I also have the rack, 4 extra MAF's and 3 FPCU including one in my trunk. LOL, extra set of seat controls, extra set of window motors, wiper motor, extra clock, and probably more all as extras for me,

Is there more of a difference in braking with the 1990 Q45 setup than there would be if I added stainless steel lines?

the difference is tiny at best.....biggest difference is always the choice of tire, always.
