Strange Whirring and Grinding Noises

Hi All,

My QX4 is making some very concerning noises when the engine idles at stop lights. Kind of a whirring grinding noise over and over again. The noise seems to go away as I speed up and comes and goes.... very strange. Anyone ever run into this?

can you tell where its coming from?? does it do it when its in park or only in drive???? If oyu can get it to do it at idle pop the hood and see if you can tell where its coming from.

I'll check it out, though I don't think it's related to the engine... perhaps something going on with the body. It definitely sounds like things are being mashed together over and over. Maybe when the body starts moving up and down over bumps or uneven surfaces? It's strange. Scary.
