First post BTW

My GFs 3.5 Altima is making a whining noise that seems to be coming from the trunk area..intermediately... looking for any ideas this may be before we have to take it to the stealership. My first guess was fuel pump or dirty fuel filter causing the pump to work harder?

However, I drove the car last night I was able to make the whine increase and decrease by pressing the brakes.. it was too dark to check the brake fluid level so I will do that today as well.

brakes? fuel pump? anyone else experianced this? Thanks

Welcome to NICO first off...

I havent experienced that on mine.. is it like a mechanical whinning? How long has she had it? if its still under warranty just take it in and give em hell about it.

Thx JD, Unfortunately it isn't under warranty that is why I came here first.the sound does not sound mechanical like a grinding sound ,its kind of a high pitch whine from the trunk area only while moving so its not something I can pinpoint while the car is still.Anyone?

Im not an expert but it may be the fuel pump... instead of takin it to the dealer id take it to a shop, just cause the dealer likes to try to bend you over the hood...lol A shop may try that too so id go somewhere youve been before.

if its your fuel pump, you would hear the same whine in park at idle, or when you revved your engine. Put your ear to the rear seat cushion, on the right side. Have your girl start the car and rev. If you can hear the whine from that spot, and hear it whine higher and lower, matching the motor speed. Then its the fuel pump.
