I can't really hear the driver. All I could tell is he said something about 2nd and 3rd but not in what context.

ya same here. something about corners and 2nd and 3rd pulling harder. what i usually do is put it in manual mode and then floor the gas pedal all the way, then at 5000 RPM hit it back into "D" with my foot still all the way on the gas. it will either keep increasing or it will just shoot up to redline and stay there.

at the track i tried starting out in manual mode "M1" and then at 5000 RPM put it back into D and it "FELT" faster BUT my 1/4 mile times showed that even that was slower then just leaving it in D at a stop (i know a little off topic since we're talking about from a roll but ya)

I think he meant that the CVT is faster in drive than in manual mode.

is that really true? Is the car better in drive than over to the left?

"D" is much faster then "manual mode" with CVT, it's a proven fact. many people have tested it at the track and have found just leaving it in "D" is much faster

just for fun lol in you put it in 6M in Manual mode your RPMS will be pretty low but when you put it back into "D" they drop a tiny bit more. the only time i use manual mode is to down shift before i pass a car so i can immediately take off like a rocket instead of building up RPMs with "D". plus sometimes to hear my exhaust lol if i shift it at around 3k to 4k RPM i hear a nice bubbly crackle from the exhaust lol

that does sound like fun. Now, is a manual transmission a/c faster than the "D" mode of a cvt a/c?

ya stick shift is faster. thing is, CVT (and other automatic Nissan transmissions) don't allow full throttle past 90 mph. the 05-06 automatic altimas only allowed 80% throttle past 90 MPH and i would assume CVT is also 80% throttle. is if you compare 1/4 mile times the stick shift gets 14.2 and magazines have rated the CVT at 14.6 (i got a 14.4 though). in the 0-60, stick shift and CVT are really close. my guess is that manual mode can launch at a higher RPM and then CVT starts to cut-out a little at 90 MPH so that gives stick shift even more of an advantage. if you got a torque converter for CVT (or something like that) and do an ECU tune to get rid of the 90 MPH let off i think they would be pretty much the same..... a good driver in the stick shift might still win but a bad driver would lose. stick shift does feel a lot faster and more fun to drive though lol but with the 2.5 i've heard theres a big difference between stick shift and CVT.

Yea, i agree - the CVT gets off a little quicker starting in manual mode (or so i've noticed) but overall really wants to be driven in the automatic mode. The manual mode provides a quicker response, but generally does not make the car go any quicker...

I haven't really found any benefits to manual mode so far, which makes me question it's existance.

I just leave it in D and go.

And sticks are definately quicker from what I've gathered.

IMO owning a 2.5. CVT is alot more quicker off the line allowing you to reach your higher RPMs quicker compared to manual mode where it seems like it takes forever to get into the higher RPMs. From a roll I would assume it would be the same unless your in the high RPMs then you might see a diff outcome but i dunno lol. Mind you this is coming from someone who knows little about cars

In manual mode you can do engine braking, useful for downhills so you don't wear out your breaks as fast.

one thing my brother told me was to use the E brake in situations like that. if course not all the way where your back tires lock up and you spin lol but a little bit will slow you down. if you hit your brakes or down shift to slow down, your car dips down in the front and you can see from a distance that the person is trying to slow down. E brake keeps the car leveled and does not make the brake lights come on
