Hi everyone out there,i'm a proud owner of a beautiful sl murano for the past six month. For the past fewweeks i've been getting a very slight vibration on the steering wheel when i'm coming to a stop'funny thing is i took the car to nissan for a 100 point check and was told everythings fine, only two belts need changing.i also noticed the enging idles a little rough at a full stop when i'm in traffic or at a stop light, but not all the time. Should i be worried or take my baby elsewhere for a second opinion?

If it's still under warranty I would take it back to the dealer.

Another member seems to have experienced something similar.zerothread?id=249242

You didn't mention the year of your SL yet stated two belts needed to be changed. That tells me you probably have a used Mo with 50K miles or so.?

Typically if you get a shaking or vibration in the steering wheel while braking you need the brake rotors turned (lathed - so they are "true" again). Very common issue in most vehicles. Your dealer would not have noticed unless they drove the vehicle - even then they probably wouldn't say anything especially if still under warranty etc..

What year is your Mo?

Slight cracks in accessory belts (of which our Mo's have 2) will be seen on any car even after as little as 20-30K miles. Therefore, no matter how few miles your car has, the dealer will almost always recommend replacing those belts. The FSM lists 60K miles or 48 months as the first inspection point for the Alternator/AC and power steering belts, and then every 15K or 12 months after that. There is no replacement interval - the FSM says just to replace them when the belts are damaged (ie cracked).

I waited to 65K (60K is a common replacement interval on some cars) to change my belts, even though slight cracks were visible long before that. Despite doing most maintenance myself, I opted to have the dealer change the belts, a combination of several forum members having trouble with one of the the tensioner bolts and the fact that it only cost just a tad over $100.

I wasn't questioning whether or not his belts needed changing - just making an assumption/statement that it was probably not an 09 Mo etc. If so my comments would of been steered towards: "its Warranty work".

Cheers

I understood you weren't questioning that, KJ. And I too figured the OP bought a used Mo with (likely) a bunch of miles already on it.

I was just explaining that it could very well need belts, and that they are very cheap to get replaced - even at a dealer!
