So I get in my car this morning, I turn it on, and I accidentally pull the key out while the car is on, but it came out like butter, nice and smoothe. And the car stayed on....any ideas anyone?

Just means that your lock cylinder is worn to hell. I'll bet you just about any 240 key will start your car.
