I've got a base Hatchback, with the single CD player. On the way home from the dealer I heard static from the radio that sounded like the radio station wasn't exactly on the right frequency. It lasted a few seconds and went away. I just assumed it wasn't a clear signal. I heard it a few more times on the 8 hour ride home from the dealer, and then started thinking maybe the antenna wasn't very good at pulling in distant signals. Well, a few days later I get the noise again, but this time it's when I am listening to the CD. It's an intermittent problem, and only happens maybe once or twice a week, regardless of whether I am listening to the radio or a CD.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I agree with McLeod... It may be a bad HU so take the car back to the dealer and let them check it out. I know you said the problem is intermittent so maybe you could just even ask them to replace it as it is defective. It should be under warranty anyway so you shouldn't be too concern about it.

I thought I would follow up on this thread. We reported the strange intermittent static noise to the service writer at our local dealer who point blank said "if we don't hear it, then we can't do anything about it, and until we hear it actually happen this is not a warranty issue. If the problem gets worse after the warranty expires it still won't be covered because we have to hear it while it is still under warranty "

Not too impressed with Nissan overall. The car is great, but the dealer screwed up the paperwork and we didn't get a tag for 75 days (and had a 30 day temp tag), and we had to overpay $426 in taxes because the dealer screwed up the Cash for Clunkers paperwork. Now I can't get anyone in Service to acknowledge an issue with the radio that three people have heard. I guess all customers are liars in the eyes of a service department.

Hmmm...
