Good day folks Quick question-Yesterday I had to move my 2013 Rogue from the garage, it was about 40 degs out when I started it -- backing it out took no more then 10 seconds. Later that day I restarted the Rogue and moved it back into the garage. Did not use the vehicle all day, only to move it and out of the garage with a cold engine. This morning the Rogue cranked but I must have let go of the starting switch a sec too soon. I went to restart it and it cranked very fast, almost like the timing chain had broke, it was a different sound just a fast crank no start. I did press the gas pedal down a few times while cranking and after about a minute or two the Rogue started and runs perfect as it always does! This happened a couple of years ago, only happens if I start a cold engine for 10 seconds then turn off! Any ideas? Thanks you and Happy New year! Stay Safe!

If it happen a few years ago, maybe its the odd gremlin that may come and go. Alot of wierd things can happen with a rogue. If it's not frequent, I would not worry about it.

Three things. First, fuel pumps have been known to "stick" when cold, particularly if there's varnish in the tank or the brushes are going bad. Very often they'll spin up after cycling the key a few times. Second, see if you have a security lamp in the cluster when it does it. It's possible your key is getting weak and the IMMU is occasionally mis-reading it. Third, you might have a balky crankshaft sensor that isn't flatlined but isn't reading correctly. All three of those things will cause "no-fire" spinning of the starter.

One question, would the Key fob cause any of this? Just wondering, as I did have a weak battery the last time this happened, although it could've been a coincidence!

Not likely. With I-key, you'd get a "No Key" message in the cluster if the key was too weak to broadcast. It wouldn't just crank. With button-type lollipop keys the battery is only for the buttons. The key-reading system is passive RFID that's actuated by the IMMU antenna, so it doesn't need power to function.
