So my J has started to die randomly when I come to a stop. I have have done the following and it still happens:
-swapped out the IACV
-swapped out the TPS
-new air filter
-cleaned MAF sensor
-disconnected vacuum line from EGR valve (and plugged it - so that it couldn't be stuck open)
As I come to a stop and the RPMS get just below 2k then the needle plummets to zero and if I don't give it some gas or put it neutral and rev it, it will die. It is a bit rough and sluggish as it revs up but then it's fine if I keep the RPMs up. After the light goes green and I can move and I get moving then there is no sign of the issue and often at the next stop it won't happen. It may not even happen again for a day or two.
When I can tell that the RPMs are dropping and this is happening if I put it in neutral or park it will still happen and stall.
This may not be related but sometimes while driving when I take my foot off the gas the RPM needle will drop as expected but will bounce a few hundred RPMs. This doesn't always happen. It seems strange and random just like the engine stalling.
I am out of ideas other than replacing the MAF and hoping it is failing. I need to look if there is any way to test to see if it's in spec.
