The thing is that when the car is idling, it makes a wierd roaring sound....kinda rattlish...but when i push down the clutch, it goes away...and when i depress the clutch, i hear it again...any ideas? thanks your help and time guys.

Oh sorry, the car is a 89 fastback

Sounds like a throwout bearing or an input shaft bearing. Both require removal of the transmission.

I have the same issue. You will have to pull off the transmission to solve it. Me, I just intend to keep driving until the clutch stops working; the sound doesn't appear to impede my ability to drive the car. Besides, I can barely hear it above the din of all the other mechanisms going south.

My car is doing the same thing, but I'm not worrying about it... is it loudest in 1st gear, then 2nd, and so on? If so, it's probably a bearing in the transmission, not too much to worry about, at least it hasn't been for me.
