I have a 2000 I30 and recently I have started to hear a strange sound if I accelerate as I'm driving down the road. I can sit idle in park and rev up the engine and I will not hear the sound, but if I press the accelerator--to merge onto the freeway or go up a hill--there is this strange rattling sound. It sounds almost like you put a small metal ball in a tin can and lightly shook the can around.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

It could be caused by the heatshield on the exhaust manifold.

+1. My G20 had a similar rattling sound and it was caused by a loose heat shield.

Thanks for all the help guys, and the link to the other thread...i'm going to try to tighten up the heat shield sometime in the next few days and and I'll let you know how that turns out.
