Problem: Hard start.

Background:

I've been driving my 25 swapped coupe daily for almost 2 years now, approx 15k mi with no real issues, runs great.

I drove the car from CO (old home) to SoCal (new home) in March and it mostly just sat here at my fiance's house until I finally got moved about 2 weeks ago. Since I've been here I've been driving it regularly (put approx 1.5 tanks of gas through it) with no issues whatsoever EXCEPT the starting problem.

Here's what it's doing. Turn on the key and the fuel pump (walbro) runs like normal. Crank it (cranks perfect, battery is great) and it cranks and cranks, firing occasionally and eventually enough to get it started. If I depress the gas it starts much quicker.

Once it's running it runs absolutely like normal. Pulls well all the way to redline without a glitch. Idles nicely. Only problem is the strange starting issue. I put new plugs in it today (they were due) which changed nothing. The starting problem seems to be very slightly worse when the engine is hot, but not much.

Ideas? I'm somewhat stumped. All my tools are in a storage unit until I move into my new apartment in a week so I'd like to have a game plan before I go dig stuff out lol.

Hit me with some ideas guys! Thanks!!!!

check your coolant temp sensor, timing and reset your ecu first off.

sounds like its running fat while cranking and usually a key culprit in that is the CTS.

does this also happen when warm? i.e. you drive somewhere, let it sit for a minute then start it again?

the massive altitude change should have nothing to do with this as its not a carbeurated car but you never know. RB's are temperamental b****es when they want to be thats why you should just reset your ECU and see what happens lol

Did your CAS move around?

The CAS appears to be exactly where it's always been but I'll be checking the timing tomorrow.

Joe: It seems to be happening pretty consistently regardless of engine temp. What's required for and ECU reset? The car's been sitting with the battery disconnected for the past few months until I got here. My fiance would drive it every other week or so for a bit then park it again.

did you give it a right nasty scolding?

in all seriousness its proly the engine coolant temp sensor like joe mentioned...an ecu reset might not be a bad idea.

I third that on the coolant temp sensor.....its like the choke for fuel injected motors, when the car is cold and it isn't hooked up ya have to crank and crank until its starts and its rough until it warms up due to it being lean.....check the plug to make sure the pins haven't wiggle out of it or the wires havn't wiggled out of the pins.
