First time post in tech, so please don't slam me too hard! I've spent quite a bit of time researching this and couldn't find the answer. So here goes.....

I've had my car (1994 240xs convertible - mileage 141,000 for all or 2 days. I'm going through the registration and inspection BS. This afternoon I noticed a strange noise when I released the accelerator pedal. It sounds like a pulsating thud, not a grinding noise. No noticable impact on rpm's or engine ride. Sound not noticed during exceleration at all. I wish I could be more specific. I almost had the feeling the noise was coming from mid car or behind my driver seat. Didn't get the impression it was from the engine compartment.

All suggestions welcome! Thanks so much......

when you say it was pulsating do you mean it is like duh...duh...duh...duh...etc?do you feel it or just hear it?Is it not there at all during acceleration or does the engine just cover it up?

Thanks for the reply.

I know, these "weird noise" things are tough! It's not that I feel it, I hear it. It's not a constant noise like a whistle. It has a pace, a beat, yes almost duh, duh, duh. I'm wondering if it's something that rotates? I don' think the acceration drowns it out, because it can get loud. I'll listen more tomorrow and see if I can norrow it down.

And no, there is not a bowling ball in my trunk.......

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The strange noise got so bad this afternoon that I was afraid to drive my car. Made it to a local gas station and asked them to check the lug nuts. Sure enough the drivers side back wheel had two lug nuts that they guy said were barely on. Five minutes later I was crusing and the noise was gone.

This forum is awesome!!!! There should be a tally board counting problems solved!

good though ss82480. This happened to my parents once too. They got a flat and changed the tire but no one remembered to tighten the lugs more than hand-tight. Glad you got it fixed!
