Hey everyone, I got a problem. I am a newbie I am expecting to be pounded. I have a weird noise coming from the front end of the valve cover. I think its the timing chain being loose, but am unsure. When I took off the valve cover, I was really surprised on how good it actually looked for over 200k miles, I checked the chain and it seemed tight too. you know when you are sucking out of a stray and it makes that slurping noise when you run out of the drink, well it kinda sounds like that. It will doing it but its not constant, every few seconds it will make the sound, and I dont hear it when im driving, I heard it once but that was it. It been getting louded. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

oh forgot to say why I would get pounded, when I took the valve cover off I decided to start the engine to try to pinpoint the noise, well that was stupid. Oil when all over the right side of the engine, on the tools onto my sisters car, which is a lancer. yeah that sucked, I have seen engines run without the cover before but none had oil go everywhere. Thanks for everyones help.

as long as it wasnt an EVO, i wont punch you but I will pee in your gatorade. 99.9% chance, you're right. Its a timing chain guide. It freaks some guys out but me on the otherhand just tune it out

If its that annoying lil guide, its in the front of the engine, right above the chain. A lil rectangular metal piece with 2 bolts, just take it off. If you engine is like mine, and makes that infernal racket even though it doesnt have that piece anyway. Its probably a stuck/broken timing chain tensioner. Which I am getting fixed soon...I would do it myself, but I know I will mess up the timing. (not exp enough with timing related things)

there is a reason why they put that on there. but i guess if it works then more power to you? i didnt see if the timing chain had been changed, but if it hasnt then you might want to change that. or have someone do that for you, and the rattle from your chain will be fixed if you buy a new guide and a new tensioner (sp?) but i must tell you that you want to get one from a nissan dealership becuase the after market ones dont work for ****. i had to repair mine because it didnt hold pressure at all.
