I have a 1992 Q and I love it... Recently I have had some problems though.. First, the steering pully went out.. I had that replaced... then the radiator cracked.. had that fixed as well.. The car was running fine but today I tried to start it and it was dead... the battery that is. I popped the hood and there was some kind of noise.. from a pump maybe.. even when the car was not on. I got a jump and it ran fine. But when I shut off the engine, the noise was back.. any ideas? I would love to get some advice on this... Its near the passenger side.. close to the cab (top left)

Okay, here goes.

First off, welcome in to the right place to learn all you need to konw about your G50 Q45.

Second, start reading in the articles section, especially about timing chain guides.

Thirdly, read every post by Q45tech. I know, it will take a couple of months, but learning is not without effort.

Lastly, posts like this on mechanical functions and malfunctions go in the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum, to wherethis post may be moved. Be sure to read the sticky there prior to posting.

Without a recent maintenance history, it is difficult to determine what would be making a noise in your described location when your car is not running. But try a search on ABS relay.

But I bet there is more than just the one thing that needs to be looked after.

I too would also look at the ABS relay. This happened to my car as well after a cross country drive...high pitched spinning type of noise from the passenger side. Easiest way to see if it's the ABS relay is just put your ear to it IMO. It's near the top and is marked ABS. If you haven't already gotten your chain guides replaced, you should definitely do it! But yeah, spend some time and read the posts on this site. Lots of great information. You might even get addicted to it.

I agree that it sounds like the ABS relay hanging. It's located under the black cover on the ABS Actuator. You can try tapping on it to see if it unlatches, but you definately need to replace it if it's your problem.

Welcome to NICO!
