strange knocking or ratling noise

I have a s13 blacktop sr and since day one it has been making this weird noise. It sort of a faint knocking noise but it only happens when there is no load on the engine. When i drive the car it sounds great and there is absolutely no noise but if I rev it in neutral I can hear it. If I retard my timing to TDC the noise disapear in neutral. I checked the lash adjuster while putting in the rocker arm stoppers and everything looks fine. I also red something on the board about a rod bearing but this would make noise all the time i would think. So I am out of ideas at this point.It would be awsome if somebody could give me tips on what the problem could be. Thanks.

There are a lot of parts that make noises in the engine, from the information you gave it is difficult to diagnose. You need to listen really hard and figure out what part of the engine the sound is coming from. From the block is real bad, from the front isnt too bad, from the head is usually a quick fix. It sounds like you need to have your hydraulic lash adjustors re-bled.
