I just had an sr installed about a week ago.. and everything was going great until the day before yesterday...

The car was fine all day, and then all of a sudden there was a faint knocking noise comming from my engine compartment... It is only when the motor is revving, wether the car is moving or not. I don't hear the noise at idle though. It sounds kinda like the ka valve tick, but more of a knocking noise instead of a ticking. You also have to listen pretty closely to hear the noise unless you are inside the car..

A friend of myne is pretty good with sr20's and he put a listening device to my block and my head and he said that he doubts it is rod knock, but he isnt sure where the noise is comming from...

Also, recently the turbo seems a bit louder.. I installed a blitz blow off valve the day before the noise started, and the day of the noise i had raised my hood... i hope that helps diagnose the problem....

could someone please help? :(

Mine started knocking then spun a bearing really good. I wouldn't drive the car until you can have it checked out professionally. My knock would be noticble at 2500rpm and would increase and decrease irradically with the revs.

yea, I was going to say thrown rod. Like BaiLover said dry not to drive the car, I had a friend who threw a rod in a mustang and he didn't do anything about it. I mean if you wanna pay 1500 for somebody to rebuild your engine...yea that sucks....especially since you just got it installed, If I were you, I'd start raising hell.

that is exactly what i am doing.. it sounds like it is comming more from the head, towards the rear of the motor.... im taking the car down there tomorrow, and im going to demand that it is fixed.. even thought there was no warratny with the motor, i spent alot there, and i deserve to have a motor that runs right... i doubt it is a rod, but whatever it is ima have the place fix it..

Take ahold of reality before you start raising hell and demanding things out of people. You bought a used engine, and didn't bother to rebuild it. I'm not sure where you get off expecting people to take care of something that you didn't pay for in the first place. If you had paid for them to tear down the engine and check clearances on the bearings and what not, then that's one thing. If you just bought the engine and had it put in the car, you don't have a leg to stand on.

I got this guy's word that the motor was in perfect condition..he also said that he checked everything out and everything was perfect in every aspect. So that is the reasoning behind raising hell.

By the way, why the hell did you even bother to post? I was asking people for help in diagnosing the problem, which you didn't do. So please, if you arent going to help diagnose the problem... don't post.

dont go starting **** with the guy that sold you the motor before you even figure out what it is, you dont want to piss the guy off and then have it be something small and stupid to fix, it just makes you look like a dip****.

did i say i was going to do that?? no. All i said was i am going to have them find out what it is, and THEN tell them to fix it.

Its easy to see if its in the head, yank the valve cover, put the coilpacks back on, and have a friend start the car. You WILL get covered in some oil, and sling it all over the engine bay, but if theres something wrong in the head, you should be able to see it, or at least hear it alot clearer.

no i don't. It looks very clean, and pretty much perfect. I doubt it was ever damaged or replaced. I checked my oil yesterday, and i have about 1 quart too much oil in my motor. So weird...

Is the car running smooth? Could be a rocker off... also a lifter could be screwed up. Is it a TICK TICK or is it more of a thudding noise? My injectors tick pretty loud.

Yeah some guy said a while back he had some air in his lifters (or one of them) and it was making a noise. I agree, my injectors are pretty loud...like I can barely hear them in the car.

yeah i can definately hear the injectors, but this is more of a knocking noise... i am almost positive it is one of the lifters. My car seems to be runing great though... I changed the oil today, and i got rid of the stock bov ( i have a blitz installed ), and plugged everything off, and it seems to run MUCH stronger..

LIfters would be a ticking sound normally. Mine sounded EXACTLY like lifters, I had a few people take a listen and they all swore it was in the head and it was a lifter. I ran some ATF through the system in an attempt to free a lifter, and then found out the hard way that what sounds like a ticking in the head, quickly becomes a low end knock and spun bearing. Take the valve cover off, get the car running, and look. My old KA ran GREAT with a slight rod knock, but eventually it spun the bearing and sent a rod through the block. It destroyed everything in its path, blew enough block out that I could see the rear 2 rods and pistons, bent the oil pan, and blew a chunk out of the transmission bellhousing. Its best to catch things early. If you can't check it yourself, it would be worth the money to have a trustworthy mechanic check it out.

i took it to the motor installer. He said that it sounds like air in one of the lifters, and that it isnt all that serious.. And since i ordered cams already, that there was no sense in fixing it until he installs the camshafts.
