On my way back home from work yesterday, I heard a helicopter like sound coming from my car. I was on highway. Wasn’t sure where it was coming from. I later realized that it was happening at a speed of over 50 mph (approx). So I couldn’t hear it on city road. Dropped it off at the service station. Not happy.

If there is a thread on it, I am sorry.

I had a certain noise when my sunroof was open on my Nissan Maxima, don't know if you would call it a helicoptor sound but it was kinda deafening as if your eardrums were trying to pop. Hard to describe and happens when windows were open a certain way. Not that it's related to this.

But for exterior accessories, I think I have the demonstration vehicle for that but I never had any problems with noise with windows open or not (including the sunroof) at 65-75 miles per hour at least. Even 80.

And I have Vent-visors, side moldings, nerf bar, bull bar w/foglights, rear tube protector, hood protector, crossbars w/roof rack cushions and a recently added spoiler on my Rogue.

I have the gutter guard mod done, which never caused any noise issue. There's a little light added in front, which can not cause any sound issue either. So it can not be from accesories. And the way it comes up at over 50 mph, I think its something else. The sound is close to old engine or a lose tire kinda sound. But The service is looking at it right now. They are not sure yet, but says that it will be covered under the warrenty. I'll post the update on this.

(With all the CVT issues, I was a little worried and so I took it in immediately)

I do not have the sunroof and my windows were fully closed also. Lets see what the service tells me.

No this is good future reference, a minor issue such as a loose lug nut can result in significant noise at highways speeds, this could help someone with a similar problem in the future. Thanks a lot for closing the loop and sharing all the details, glad it was a minor quick fix.

Loose lug nuts are how my buddy broke the wheel studs on his pathfinder and had to limp around with 2 studs/lugs till he could get to an auto parts shop. Started off as 1 broken stud which caused 3 other lug nuts to back off and those studs to break. Ended up putting in new studs in a gas station parking lot out of town.

Did you have the windows up or down when you heard this? I'm curious if you could hear it inside the car with the windows up.

I actually heard it while window up. I felt like it had something to do with the wheel, but wasn't sure. I heard it specially because I had the window rolled up. Otherwise, the highway wind noise probably would have prevented me from hearing it, since the noise was obvious at over 50 mph.

I was thinking of Ray Liotta in "Goodfellows" being tracked by the feds :)
