Last Monday I have to do a hard brake on the highway because of a careless driver.

I have no idea how I survived. I was 100% sure there will be a collision...

Anyway, after that incident, there is something strange in the car:

-I have the wo wo wo noise from the winter tires from day one. However, that noise seems to be louder even at low speeds.
-I feel like there is a vibration when accelerating (around 1500-2000 rpm). But I am not sure (maybe after reading "Rogue vibration issues", my mind is playing a game).
-No vibrations when braking.
-No vibrations on the steering wheel at any speed.
-Car is not pulling to left or right on highway.
-At the parking lot, when turning at slow speed, the car feels different. I feels like I am running over small stones (I have no idea about how to explain that feeling)

It is just "different". Maybe my mind is playing a game. Maybe nothing has changed in the car, but I started to "imagine" some problems, because I am biased after that hard brake. I never did such a hard brake before. I don't think I lock the wheels, so it can't be flat spots on the tires. The brake rotors can't be warped, because when braking, there is no vibrations.

I am just wondering, if I should check something after a hard brake? Should I lift the car and turn the tires to see if they turn freely or not? Or should I wait until I change my all season tires to see if the winter tires are damaged (flat at one point).

Good reflexes. Driving in NY having to dodge other people like that is fairly common... I cannot see that doing any real damage.

i think your mind is playing games with you. you didnt do anything that could have damaged anything.

i second the "in nyc having to dodge other people is fairly common" statement. there has never been a time, while traveling i NYC that didnt require me to jamb on my brakes. (and its mostly because of the scumbag taxi's)

Hey Qashqai, at first read I thought you might have lost a balance weight off one of your wheels, but upon reflection I'm not so sure. Just a thought.

you wont loose a balance simply from braking hard. they fly off from centrifugal force, or hard bumps.

Good thing nothing happen on you. It happen on me too but it was in Philadelphia.
Its good to know you got dash cam (and so do I), so in case something happen and its not our fault, we can prove it.

PIT Maneuver: Precision Immobilization Technique - taught in many EVOC(emergency vehicle obstical course) classes world wide.
WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT ITS EITHER YOUR LIFE, OR THE IDIOT THAT JUST CUT YOU OFF(especially in an SUV where you are prone to flipping). this technique works wonders when you are getting jammed up.

I can do you one better, a cab driver literally swerved into me trying to hit me and then for two blocks proceeded to slam on his brakes in front of me. I was seeing red... At the first intersection we came to where the light was red, I got out and came over to his window and asked him what was wrong with him and he started yelling and cursing at me and putting his hand in my face and was about to hit me and I grabbed his hand so he wouldn't and at that point I was so mad I was ready to hit him... He had no regard for my life, and his lack of remourse fueled my anger. Then a lady screamed, "dont do it sir", and I realized it was rush hour and there were a ton of cars and people in the street (witnesses), but he kept cursing at me and trying to get his arm free to swing at me and I was so mad I punched his side mirror off. I just had to release my energy I was so mad... It broke into pieces, and I got in my car and got the hell outta dodge.

That was a while ago and Im certainly not condoning that type of behavior, but these guys are nuts and have ZERO regard for anyone else's life... on streets where there is more than one lane, they ALL straddle the line and take up 2 lanes, and when they think they see a fare, they cut to one side and slam on their brakes in front of anyone. I have no problem hitting the siren on them when Im in my bus to get them to swing back over when Im coming up behind them.

Heck, just a week ago a cabbie bumped into my Rogue! He was cutting a whole block of cars by coming up on the side, and he hit a mercedes' mirror squeezing down the street too. He was trying to push in behind me while I was stopped at a red light. I noticed the dodge ram behind me wouldnt let him in (rightfully so), I looked in my mirror and he was touching my bumper in the side... I put on my rear light and got out and told him to back up and park because we needed to talk... he did so and I backed up and parked in front if him... His passenger got out and left (he lost his fare), the lady in the benz eventually pulled up and yelled at him, and i was going off on him as well. Luckily there was no damage to my car... He literally just touched it... so I didnt make out a police report or anything, and having him beg me to "give him another chance" made me feel like he was scared enough, so I stopped busting his balls after about 5 mins of yelling at him...

No, and yes. If it had been knocked loose due to a previous "hard bump" and worked looser over time, it could theoretically fly off from hard breaking. Stranger things have been known to happen, and sometimes an unbeknown issue can be revealed through sheer happenstance.

As you may remember, I had a ticking noise coming from the steering wheel. I took the car twice to the dealer and I still have that noise. But I have a bigger problem. The car feels really strange.

-There is this "winter tire" noise in the car at 10-20 km/h speeds (normally that winter tire "wo wo wo" noise came around 50-60 km/h)
-At the parking lot, while turning left or right slowly, the car shakes and vibrates
-It is not a wheel alignment problem, because the car is not pulling to left or right
-It is not a wheel balance problem, because the steering wheel is not vibrating at highway speeds

Today I read the Steering section of the Factory Service Manual and this is what I found:

Image

...they maybe re-install the steering wheel column improperly??? I know at my first visit they took apart all the steering wheel shaft/assembly.

I will take it to the fifth time for a test drive to prove that there is something wrong with the car...It will be a battle...

Guys,

I know it is a stupid question, but what is "Shimmy" and "Judder". I found the dictionary definitions, but how can you describe these "feelings" with an example.

I have an appointment next week at the dealer. It will be my fifth visit and after my complaints to Nissan Canada, the service manager was really panicked (probably pissed off as well). I just looked at the FSM (the screen shot on the message above this one) and try to be as prepared as possible.

Thank you.
