Strange ECU issue

I got an ecu with my Red top, but the wierd thing is the fact that it has a wire hanging out with an on/off switchI opened it up and it is connected to another chip.You guys know anything about that?I havent noticed this on other ecus that i have seen so i was wondering.I will try to post a pic as soon as i get home.

this ecu has been aftermarket tuned. the switch is either an on/off for the new mapping, or a switch for 2 settings ie. timing curve , boost....
