I have a 1993 240sx convertable with a 5spd manual transmisson swap and a short throw shifter. It doesnt shift into 1st at all when I am already moving, I cannot downshift into first unless stoped or rolling below 5mph. It also seems that shifting when in high rpms can sometimes be difficult, the high rpms shake the shifter alot. I was just wondering if this is normal for the 240sx 5spd transmission?

Yeah, that sounds normal really. You shouldnt be going into first unless you are under 5mph and every short throw shifter and most stock ones I've seen in our cars shake like hell. Doesnt sound out of the ordinary to me.

You can try adjusting the clutch cable.. Well it's hydraulic cable but there is a adjuster behind the clutch pedal.. If it shakes excessively then is not normal, check your transmission mount..Or check your driveshaft as well.

it has nismo transmission mounts, which i think are stiffer. It is actually difficult to downshift when at high rpms, almost like something is in the way.

well i think its normal. you dont need to downshift when in high RPM's. I think it feels like something is in the way because the RPM's are too high for that gear. At least thats how it is in my celica.

try changing the fluid to redline MT-90. i had almost similar shifting problems and the MT-90 solved them. but i put it off to long and now my syncros are bad and i have to rebuild my trans. so dont let it go

I had the same problem with mine before I did a fluid change and swapped the clutch and flywheel. I now have almost no vibration from mine, while doing the clutch swap I found out that my carrier bearing is going bad so I believe that might be attributing to the remaining vibration I have. Going with a single piece drive shaft soon so no need to replace it right now.
