has anyone had this problem? or know what could be causing it? the motor will have a hard time starting up after it's been driven after i stop somewhere. for an example, i'll go to the gas station to get gas, i let it idle for a bit then i turn it off, pump gas, buy smokes or whatever. then it won't start again...

i've checked the timing on the motor and it's spot on... i've redone the ignition time to 10* (i've read from somewhere that that's what it's supposed to be for the jdm motors and 15* for the edm motors) but i've set it at 15* too... but same problem.

i had purchased another cas, cuz i thought my original one was faulty. but the same thing...

i've also read on here to clean the aac vavle, it helped on cold starts but still did not solve the other problem.

i've changed the spark plugs and again nothing...

i do have a wideband, but i just installed it recently and have not ran it with it on. it'll start when it sits for a while, but the moment i turn it off and try to start it up again. it just tries to turn over but won't.

oh yeah, i do have added ground wires to the intake manifold and block. if that makes a difference? well any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Sounds like a maladjusted TPS. The engine thinks it's in off-idle when it should be 'on-idle'. As a result it slowly floods itself to death after 20 minutes of driving.

Please read the procedure in the FSM for tuning the TPS.

It could be a few other things..but this is the most likely.

This happened to me in 1997 :-) Old lessons hang around...

thanks, i'll look into it. worst case scenario, i'll just swap it out with a ka throttle body. is the ka tps plug and play? well if there are any other suggestions that you might think it may be, feel free to share. it's gonna be a long winter anyways...

Check the plug on your water temperature sensor. Sometimes it comes loose and that's the problem it causes when it comes loose.

is the water temp sensor and engine temp sensor the same? i know there are two sensors there. one that is black with a tab and the other one has a red base with a connector plug. the fsm just says that there is an engine temp sensor but it does not say what the other sensor is?

i did replace the engine temp sensor and it starts up fine now. thanks dee. but i would like to know what the other one is for, in case i need to replace it down the line as well. thanks again.

The one with the single blade tab is the water temperature sender and the one with the two prong connector is the water temperature sensor. Glad to be of some help.........
