Was going to use a turkey baster on the power steering fluid reservoir this afternoon, but was defeated by the mesh screen near the inside top of the reservoir - Without removing it, you can't suck out more than a small fraction of the total fluid in the tank, let alone what's in the rest of the system!

Is there some way of removing this screen? It almost looks like it's permanently glued to the top half of the reservoir.

Put your index and middle finger in, push out on the sides of the basket, and lift. At least, thats how it is on every Nissan I've dealt with. Not sure if its the same on the Y33 Q?

Tried that - Mine is either different, or stuck.

You could try hte homebrew flush.. Cap the return line on the PS res (line on the side, not the bottom) and then run the hose into a bucket while adding ATF to the res...

Thanks, guys.

Judging from the color of the little bit I already suctioned out, I'm probably better off flushing the whole thing out anyway - It sure wasn't purdy!

I've got a pair of hydraulic quick-disconnects left over from an old project - Maybe I'll just cut the return hose and splice them in. One of them automatically shuts off the flow as soon as you disconnect, so that side could go to the tank.

You can disconnect the bottom hose on the power steering pump and let all the fluid drain into a pan. Jack the front-end of the car up and turn the steering wheel lock to lock. All of the fluid will come out. Now put the hose back on and fill the resovoir up while an assistant turns the steering wheel again. You will have to start the car and be prepared for that high pitched sound of low fluid. Keep putting the fluid in while your assistent turns the wheel. Don't overfill it. Turn the car off, lower the front-end, check the fluid level. I had a problem with the power steering turning on/off periodically but after that one flush it stopped doing it.
