Depends on what your definition of straight pipe is, some people think its just an exhaust without cats. Other think its just one longggg pipe coming from the header..

But anywhoo, I have an aftermarket exhaust without cats and it sounds fine.

If you were to get literal straight pipes without an actual muffler (the muffler is what helps exhausts cut noise down to low degree) you might run into alot of complaints with people, including some law enforcement.

And for what its worth, IMO, a literal straight pipe on a Z sounds like total crap.

I'm running open cats on mine and it sounds great, but the turbos muffle the sound a lot. :chuckle:

My N/A sounds like hell without resonators or mufflers though, and so did my buddy's G35. Not recommended.

I've never heard a 350Z with straight pipes that didn't sound raspy as hell...

I just have straight pipes from the cats back and I think it sounds meaner and louder than a lot of aftermarket exhausts, plus it's quiet when you want/need it to be.

The Tomei Expreme is growing on me, problem is finding a rear diffuser that I can use for it (and that has a plug for the right side cutout).

^ the Tomei has been growing on me as well. but i have not found a good video of it yet. the videos that are of the exhaust don't sound that great :/ almost dare i say a honda....

anyways.... any car with straight pipes are gonna be loud and get you in trouble. not to mention it will kinda ruin the sound of the VQ that i'm sure we all love.

straight pipes 350Z's only sound good if thier is at least one quality resonator...if not it will have a horrible hiss/raspy at 3-4k!
