What steps do I need to take to keep the seals and internals in a transmission out of a 1990 Q45 from dry rotting during long term storage? Thanks. Matt

In theory you could use an electric pump in the heat exchanger lines to circulate the ATF.How long is long. For a year I would not worry?

I am swapping out an engine with transmission from another 90' that was rearended. I drove it home and the transmission felt nice and firm when it shifted so I decided to swap out the transmissions also but I want to keep the one that was in my car for backup incase the other goes bad. I don't know how long it will sit depending on how long the other transmission lasts. So you say that I should fill the transmission up and hook a pump to it to circulate fluid? For how long would I run the pump for and how often. Also do I have to rotate the torque converter and run the shift selector thru the gears when the pump it on?ThanksMatt

I would just make sure that all the openings are sealed to keep out dirt and air.
