Hi Everyone:

One of the most frustrating things to me about the '07 G35 sedan is that it disables things like setting destinations properly in nav, searching for music by artist/album, etc. as soon as you're driving. For example, if I'm driving and I want to find the nearest Starbucks, I find that this is basically impossible to do without coming to a complete stop and typing it in. The voice recognition does not recognize Starbucks, and the 'Nearby Places' categories includes restaurants, but that creates a list that is way too long to find the one starbucks you want. I wish they would make it an option for us whether we want these things disabled or not. Anyone know how to over ride this yet?

ThanksTamir

You can disable this but disabling this lock requires disabling the vehicles VSS (I think its called) that ends up messing your Navigation systems up since the car communicates with the satelite periodically instead of constantly. Just google around if your still intrested.

i'd rather have someone messing with their navi in the "hammer lane" rather than someone putting their makeup on or eating a big mac while driving. cause in the end, once they put in their destination in the navi then they'll be more efficient than the commuters that act like tourists.

I think Infiniti is doing the right thin by disabling all of these things during driving, but only if they have a lot more flexibility in their voice command than they do. For example, why does the voice command support Play By Mood, and not Play By Category? Play By Category in general is stupid because it doesn't allow you to play any of the album categories like Rock, Pop, Classical, etc., but instead allows you to play 'recently played' or things like that which are not really categories.

The navigation should allow you to say 'Find nearest Starbucks'. I think it's actually meant to support that, and I've tried it, but it never recognizes what I'm saying when I say starbucks or coffee shop.

With proper voice control, no one needs to mess with the screen while they're driving. Until they fix the voice control though, it is very annoying that everything is disabled... Thanks for your responses guys.

CheersTamir

What about the front seat passenger? I've had times when I wanted to use one of the features that's disabled, and the passenger could have easily done it without distracting me a bit, but no - it's disabled.

I agree with the concept of keeping from distracting the driver - there's enough bad drivers and accidents already, but like everything, we should have the choice and take the personal responsibility for what we're doing. If you're driving down a wide open road with no traffic, then it may be safe to tap the screen a few times while you're driving. If people took personal responsibilty for their actions and thought out the consequences of their actions before taking them, then I think the manufacturers wouldn't be 'forced' (really just trying to legally cover their a**es) to disable these features.

I understand both side. There is the reason why Infiniti does this with other carmakers. It is true most what you guys are saying I do agree with the voice command should enable some of the features in the car at least more than what it is enabling right now. I totally agree. With the passanger activation you know what would happen. We are all humans. You would end up doing it too sometimes. I know I would probably. I am pretty sure 40-50 % of the small accident coming from distructions. This would be another one. You know when there is nobody on the road I can do it and bang sure somebody comes out from nowhere. I've heard accidents a few my father in law used to investigate highway accidents for 25 years.
