Maybe I misread the owners manual, but I thought is said the engine would not stop if the A/C was on. Mine does. At a long light it will start getting hot in the car.

I can confirm the OM isn't accurate in that regard, I had a similar customer complaint just the other day. It seemed better-behaved with the A/C set on "Auto", which didn't surprise me. Nissan's most recent HVAC systems are all pretty unfriendly to manual use, getting goofy and non-linear when you override what the system wants to do. No offense to Calsonic in general, but their HVAC programming leaves a lot to be desired (I'll stop short of "sucks", but only because they do work pretty okay in Auto).

You might check your eco mode settings. If your not using eco mode, shouldn't matter. It states if you turn the fan to max speed it will not activate. Mine engine shuts off with the A/C on auto. I have seen the A/C priority message.

The Idling Stop System will not activate under the following conditions:

When the fan speed of the air conditioner is set to the maximum speed, unless the Air Conditioning ECO customize option is selected, and the ECO driving mode is on.

If the temp is lower than 68°F or greater than 86° F, , unless the Air Conditioning ECO customize option is selected, and the ECO driving mode is on. (Keep in mind, Nissan's 68 to 86 doesn't seem to be reality. I like 70 to 72 but have to keep this Rogue set from 76 to 78.)

The manual really doesn't describe in detail what the eco mode does to the air conditioner. They probably don't know!

Forgot to mention that I have a 23 S, no Auto setting on the A/C nor do I normally use the max fan speed setting. I've never actually used ECO mode on the transmission but plan to on an upcoming trip. I'll check and see if I have an ECO option on the A/C.

I can confirm that turning off the A/C ECO in Settings and running the A/C at MAX doesn't work. So far the only thing that does seem to work is the override button on the dash, but you have to remember to push it every time you start the car. There seems to be nothing to set and forget.

The only Stop-Start eliminator I can vouch works on T33 Rogues is this type from China. It also works with R53 Pathfinders, which use identical switch wiring (although different wire colors). It was actually designed for the J11 Qashqais and T32 X-Trails, but the wiring and hardware on the T33/R53's is identical to those. It won't work on the D41 Frontiers, which have different wiring. The advantage to it is that it lets you turn S-S back on if you want to:

I haven't actually done it on a T33 or R53, but on the new D41 and earlier X-Trail/Qashqai models with S-S, shorting the switch will permanently disable it. This should also work on the T33/R53 unless there's a difference in software (which I doubt). If you want to try it, simply get at the back of the 8-pin connector and jumper the Lavender/Brown (T33 Rogue) or Blue (R53 Pathy) wire on pin 6 to the Black ground wire on pin 8. Shorting those two wires disables the button and should signal the BCM/ECM to kill the S-S as soon as you start the car. There's no real current flowing in the circuit, so it's pretty much impossible to hurt anything and a bent paper clip with some electrical tape will work fine for the modification. If I can remember, I'll try it out on a T33 next time I have one in my bay to confirm that it works.

Looks like the button came on my Rogue, without the light.

The Rogues and Pathies only have backlighting on the switch, there's no indicator like the Frontier. I presume that's because you're getting an indication in the cluster, so an on-off lamp would be redundant.

I had a '24 Rogue in my bay this morning. Shorting the button worked like a charm, the "S-S Off" indication came up in the cluster as soon as the car was started. The connector is easy to reach without removing anything except the fusebox cover, you can reach up behind the panel and feel for it. It has one of those "easy latch" connectors, depress the lever shown with the red arrow and it comes right out with plenty of slack in the wire. I used a small safety pin with the head and tip cut off, inserted into the back of the connector. That should be a good permanent fix, the spring tension from the pin should keep it in place without vibrating loose while allowing you to restore the S-S anytime by simply removing the pin.

Thanks Vstar. I’ll check it out. I changed the oil last week. That was unpleasant even on a lift.
