was going for my monthly hike up to the mainland today. when i lit the fire in the Q a VERY stange noise came from somewhere, sort of like a wood working router sounds in the distance. i imediatly shut it down but the sound continued. it was impossible to tell where the sound was originating from although it was definetly coming from the Q. it was not the fuel pump humm, it was not the security alarm. i opened the trunk and the noise stopped. refired and i have not heard it since. no i was not under the influence of any mind altering substances. my wife was with me, she heard it(she hears everything). has any one ever had this happen? one small aside, i have ants in my car. the only reason i mention this is because years ago an associate had ants in his jeep and they caused some electrical anomalies by nesting in some componets. ants & noise could be coincidetal. you tell me.

it could be something just went crazy for a minute... Occasionally things go mad on my Q and just letting it reset itself works.

If it doesnt it again let us know...... did it change the driveability of the vehicle at all (the noise)

did not change driveability whatsoever. it was definetly an electronically sourced sound. bombing the car is not an option. i used an ant toxin(boric acid in a syrup base)though.

Was going to suggest the beginnings of some type of pulley failing or water pump starting to go till you said that.

yeah that was my 1st reaction as well. then when i shut the motor off and the noise continued.......what the f***. like i wrote before, it was impossibe to tell exactly where it was coming from. i opened the drivers door, pushed trunk release,(it did sound as if it was coming from the cabin or trunk moreso than under hood), lifted trunk lid & noise stopped......what the f***? noise has not re-visited after several restarts and appx. 100 miles. i guess i should not worry about but like i wrote before, those damn piss ants showed up at the same time. cant figure that out. i never eat in the car. i have heard of and seen where ants are attracted to electronic componets. if thats the case then gotta tend to that NOW.
