I replaced two light bulbs at the third brake light, but the stop lamp inoperative won't go away. Any ideas?

Thanks

This is on a 95

If you use non-OEM spec lamps it can appear to the car as though the lamp is still bad. Make sure you get a Sylvania (regular or long-life) lamp as a replacement.

Did you replace with sylvania long life?

How were the sockets for the tail lights, were they burnt?

Check the stop lamp sensor.

Clean socket with electrical parts cleaner then add dielectric grease.

Did you use cheap Chinese bulbs sold by NAPA? If so, better inspect for burned wires and sockets. The lamp is telling you you are drawing too much current because the resistance is too high.

OEM or Sylvania LL only! All else is a gamble. There are probably already a half dozen different threads with similar titles.

It kind of makes me mad nissan did this. As nice as the lan system is I think it should give you a warning and keep the power going to the bulb. I only say this because it makes it really tough to make led stop lamps

All you have to do is match the expected current draw.

Yea I tried everything my limited electrical knowledge will let me do. Load resistors don't seem to work

Don't feel bad, you are not the only one. A few LED rear tailight projects have gone by the wayside. Time to get an BSEE on it. I think it is pretty low on Dennis' list.

Yea, I actually had the one Wes had. The thing wasn't even set up for 12v! The guy (whoever made it) had it built with a 10v battery powering it... I'm working on my BSIE and we don't really work with electronics so what do I know

You're lucky he didn't bestow the supercharger project to you!

Replaced the two bulbs with a package of the new packaged Sylvania 921LL bulbs, didnt fix the problem. I then bought the old package, fixed the problem. Weird.....

All the brake lights are on one circuit and run through the brake lamp sensor mounted below the trunk lock. I think what the warning message is tellling you is that there's high resistance in another part of the circuit. Take a look at both brake lamp modules, they come out with the squeeze of the fingers. It could be as simple as melted (flattened) leads on one of the bulbs.

I think he meant, he bought the old bulbs that were the ones to cause the problem in the first place.

Really? So something is still wrong then.

I didn't understand he had to buy something he already owned?

Oh well.

Well like Denis said over time the little wire in the bulb that make the light bulb work gets thinner and thinner over time so by replacing with a new but incorrect bulb fixed the problem for him.

That's not possible. Either it works becasue it presents the correct current draw or it doesn't. I wonder if the original bulb was not seated correctly?

Something is screwy.

I have a question. When my brake light came on so did the Stop Lamp Inoperative light. Don't the two correlate with each other? I thought I read some where that SLI will come on when your brakes are worn.

Sorry, was typing on my cell phone.

I meant to say I bought a pack of Sylvania LL bulb (ones with the new lettering and looks to it). It didn't work. I went back into the store and bought a pack of the Sylvania LL bulbs in the old packaging. They worked. It's weird...

The bulbs I used from my toolbox were 916, different than the 921 that is needed.

Thank you for the clarification.

I was thoroughly confused.
