Take a look at your brake light bulbs and sockets. It's a 3 light module and no tools are required to remove it. Pull back the trim in the trunk to expose the stop lights. The bulbs with two filaments run pretty hot and will burn out the socket or melt the bulb connections. I havent seen the single filament bulb cause problems. Everything still works (up to a point) but you've got to look at the annoying message while you drive.

The consensus is to replace the bulbs with OEM or Sylvania LL only. If your sockets are melted you can replace the entire 3 bulb module purchased from the stealership or solder in the individual sockets purchased from your local parts store.

Also check the "3rd Brake Light". It has 2 bulbs, so it would seem to be fine, with one being out.

I have the same problem and I bought new bulbs from the dealer. My next step is to replace the bulb holders. Mine was intermittent before but now is always lit up.
