Hey there, my sr started making a knocking noise in neutral and goes away when I depress the clutch. And when I am going down the road and shift any higher then 2k rpm's It growls at me. I have narrowed it down to a couple things....pilot bearing...throw out bearing.....or...the input shaft bearing..?Just wanted to get some input from someone that has maybe had this problem before...Thank you in advance.

I'm gonna say the input shaft bearing. If it was the throwout bearing it would make noise when you press the clutch in, the pilot bushing would make a constant sound.

When you push your clutch in your transmission stops spinning, thus stopping the bearing and the noise.

does it sound like this

mine has exactly all the same problems as yours does..I was thinking either the pilot bushing or the input shaft bearing.

Yeah exactly, Its the input shaft bearing.http://www.courtesyparts.com/2....htmlIts number 32219The pilot bearing makes a high pitched sound. If i were you I would just replace it while you have the trany pulled.

Sorry, Was looking at the wrong spot.It looks fairly easy to get to get to. Just a snap ring and a spacer. I have had my trany apart before. Just completely overlooked this bearing.

It's not too bad, you just need a puller or a bearing splitter to get it off.

Yeah it is pressed on. I'm going to be pulling a few trannys apart this weekend, so if I come up with any tips I'll let you know.

I would appreciate it. If you have a tip for putting it back in that would be awesome, it takes me forever to get it all lined up and in.

please do, I dont want to have to buy another trans when I can just order a bearing. Take pics too if you can. it would be great help.

EDIT: This may sound like a dumb question, but I've never take apart a transmission, anyway can that bearing just be pulled out from the front cover without the casing being taken apart? Or does it have to be taken apart anyway to be pressed on.

Yeah, just go to Courtesy or West Covina to get it for a much better price. I've been told that you can persuade it back on with a pipe with a slightly larger id than the OD of the input shaft. I'll hopefully have a more definitive answer for you on Monday.

You have to split the case to get at the bering. It really isn't all that bad to do, probably takes another 20 min or so taking it apart, and another 20 back together.

A heat gun helps to soften up the glue.

dropped my transmission yesterday. Noticed that 2 flywheel bolts were backing out and scraping against the clutch. I highly advise you stop driving it before causing more damage. My bolts backed out and messed up the threads in the rear of my crankshaft...meaning.....motor swap. I wanted to swap out the motor but not now, dont have the funds.

You should be able to just chase the threads with a tap and be fine.
