Hey all, so I picked up my first 240 about a week ago and ever since I got it there has been a strong gas smell, and I'm not sure what it could be coming from. (Don't know too much about cars yet.) When its in my garage over night and I go in there the next day the whole garage smells like gas. It passed both the exhaust smog test, and pressure(?) test, which is very strict in California, so I don't think it could have anything to do with those things. However, the first time the guy I bought it from took it in to smog it, it didn't pass the pressure test. He said it was an easy fix and took it back the next day and it passed, so maybe he fixed it long enough to pass? Anyway, just looking for some ideas on what it could be coming from and how much it would cost to fix.

As far as the leak goes, there is a black liquid coming from near the right rear. Its on Tein coilovers which are completely maxed if thats what could be leaking, I really have no idea myself..

Oh and its a 1991 with a stock KA24DE. Only engine mod it has is an Apex'i N1 dual exhaust.

Thanks for any help guys.

look at the coilovers is the fluid on the driveway also on the coils? Is the fluid incredibly slippery and oily?
Do the coilovers feel blown out? it might be hydrolic fluid from the coilovers.
As for your gas leak jack the car up and look for any leaks.

Ok so it turns out the gas smell and the black liquid are both coming from the bottom of the gas tank. Guess I was wrong about the coilover. But here are some pictures:

It looks like a gorilla tried to fix a leak, lol  . I was going to suggest you check the fuel pump o-ring but i think you found the problem. Looks like it might be time for a new tank.

Haha yeah I guess so. Any idea how much one would cost?
