I have a stock TT wing finally in my posession, in usual condition, and i want to recondition. (new = $ and i'm tapped for Z budget this summer) i was thinking of using an 800 grit on the wing to scuff it up, then filling certain spots with a bathroom caulk because it's flexable and paintable, unlikely to crack. then painting with plastidip. Has anyone tried to recondition a stock wing? what experiences, advice, or suggestions ? many vein cracks across the top right now
i can get a filler primer but i'm not sure if it would crack or endure on the rubber(?) wing
the rotting stuff under the wing i'm mostly breaking off and replacing with more caulk or some kind of rubber bonding foam glue. if not caulk, maybe a PL400 deck glue (in caulk tube)..
lastly: eventually i'll afford to get the car painted, maybe 4 years more, when all the upgrades are done and whatnot, then i'll get a brand new wing
EDIT: this repair only has to look good for 3-4 years tops

i kinda wonder also if i was just to maybe use that PL400 deck cement glue as a filler, or a rubber epoxy, just to fill the bigger nicks, and then i plastidip the whole thing 5 times if the plastidip would hide all the small paint cracks on the wing... never used plastidip, might be worth a writeup

Hmm would you happen to have any pictures of how bad the damaged areas are? I don't see why it wouldn't work though. I wonder if some type of bondo product wouldn't be better though?

i was trying to think of something that would remain sorta flexable with the rubber wing under it and not crack again, so long as it lasts 3-4 years i'm happy. here's some pics. the one bolt is completely gone underneath, i'm going to glob a ton of something under there and cement in a new bolt .
these are hard to find, i've been looking for years now, you don't wanna know what i traded for this..
edit: i have the brake light also, just removed for now, also one of the stud bolts is missing

Hmmm, this sounds like a bit of a tough one here. Bathroom caulk and/or most any caulk is not going to stay adhered to the wing, and smoothing it will be impossible as the surface will tear and delaminate quickly. The PL400 glue and other marine bonding glues stay very flexible, but also never really dry hard and you will most likely have the same issue as the caulk of when you try to get a smooth surface for paint.
Depending upon the sizes of any holes/cracks/rotted areas you have, you MAY be able to get away with plastic epoxy which stays just a little flexible to stay with a plastic/urethane bumper's movement, but stays adhered and is hard enough to sand and finish. I used it for my bumper repairs and was VERY happy with the repair results, but I have not tried to fix the outer surface yet and was advised by some to try Bondo Angel Hair which apparently works similarly to fiberglass, but is a filling product. I also planned to talk to some body shops about this issue as surely there are solutions within the industry.
