Just wondering if anyone else's PF came with a screen that flips down over the center console and a vcr player in that is mounted in the trunk? Or has anyone done any mods with it, such as put a dvd player, game system, etc in place of the stock vcr.

AUX switch that would route the sound.
-Off- Sound would go to wireless headphones that came with the car
-On- Sound would play through the car speakers

I don't have any pictures of the VCR because it broke and I trashed it.
It mounted in the trunk to a metal bracket on the drivers side near where the stock bose amp is located.

I have the same plug:

Wasn't there some TV or DVD player or something as a factory option?

I guess, but apparently it is pretty rare to see it. All I know is that the plug is for both A/V and power because it was the only cord that plugged into the VCR.

I too have a DVD player in mine, wondering if any mods can be done...

I test drove a gold 97-00 QX4 back in the day that had this built in system. Looks cool as hell - I didn't buy it because the oil was black and the alignment was shot.

My 2001 Pathfinder came with the VCR and overhead entertainment screen. The VCR started to eat tapes a few years ago, but it has the std RCA A/V input jacks which I've used for a portable DVD, a PC, game system, etc. but mostly to run the iPod into the AUX audio. The sound from the AUX input is much better than via an RF modulator.

Recently one of my RCA plugs broke off in the VCR input, so today I removed the VCR and took it apart. I found the female DIN plug mounted on the VCR was well labeled, so I removed it and soldered a three-connector A/V cable to it. Plugging in a DVD player works like a champ on the overhead screen. It's great to no longer have the VCR mounted in back, however I now have a hole in the carpet where it had been.

FYI, that DIN plug supports:
Audio In Left & Right (to AUX)
Video In (to Screen)
12V Out
Remote Out

Hi. Forum newbie here that found this thread thanks to a Google search.

I have the same stock VCR setup in my recently acquired 02 Pathfinder LE. VCR and monitor still works, as I tried a tape today for the first time and it looked terrific. However, I have no audio. It took a while to discover that the "AUX" switch (as someone posted a photo above) is supposed to make it play through the stereo speakers, but mine seems to have been disconnected, thanks to an aftermarket stereo install - although the steering wheel controls are connected and they work, so I'm not sure why. I could probably tear into it and figure out how to reconnect it if I have the time.

These units were made by Clarion (who, like Bose, makes most of Nissan's factory stereo equipment) and I believe most were factory installs. My PF didn't come with the wireless headsets or remote, so I've got a great looking/working video system in my truck with no audio. :confused: In the meantime, the RCA inputs work on the head unit, so I could hook up a portable DVD unit and then run the audio to the aux-in jack on the indash radio for a decent workaround. On the other hand, it'd be just as easy to let the kids use a laptop and a pair of headphones, too. It'd still be nice to have full-functionality of the video system though.

After surfing the internet for a while I have found out that the model is a Clarion VDH910.

To fit a DVD player or something else you need
For the radio side plug:
If you don't have the stock radio, you can easily buy a 8 pin din to rca adapter for the audio part.
For VCR side plug:
It will have to be custom made, but

Also on clarion's site they say...
Clarion uses the industry standard wiring colors. Not every unit will have all of the listed wires

SPEAKERS:
White = Left Front +
White/Black = Left Front –

Gray = Right Front +
Gray/Black = Right Front –

Green = Left Rear +
Green/Black = Left Rear-

Violet = Right Rear +
Violet/Black = Right Rear –

POWER/ACCESSORY:
Yellow 14ga = Battery Main/Memory
Yellow 18ga = Battery CeNET Power/Memory
Red = Accessory (ignition on)
Black = Ground
Blue = Antenna Turn On +
Blue/White = Remote Turn On (amps) +
Orange/White = Dimmer
Brown = Phone Mute
Orange or Mint Green= Parking Brake Video Lockout
White/Red = CCD (camera) input instant on +

RCA Cables:
Gray = Front Output
Black = Rear Output
Purple = Non-Fade or Subwoofer Output
*I have not actually done this; this is just my understanding of what someone would have to do from what I have read on the internet.*
