took my turbo in for a rebuild and possible upgrade. its in the middle of being rebuilt right now.

but neither blades are ceramic. the compressor house one is something like a 75/70 grade aluminum (something along those lines, cant remember exactly what he said). and exhaust side is a high grade stainless steal. he had all the details but i cant remember. he told me exactly what kind of steel it was. but it has a cermaic coating to protect it. he said a ceramic blade would not be able to withstand anything in a turbo.

just letting you guys know. if you still want all the details, when i pick it up i can write it all down.

What year is your motor? I think some years of the 25 came with steel impellers. I'd imagine it would not be aluminum due to the heat a turbo will see... maybe inconel?

Some Skylines come with ceramic turbine wheels, so I think your friend is feeding you some BS.

well its actually not a friend. its the place im getting the turbo rebuilt. he has the turbo all apart right now and was looking at the blade.

the reason i asked him cause when i had the turbo, it looked like cermaic but felt like metal.

ill get all the info from him next time. i sort of agree with him cause i was feeling it before. from what i recall its stainless steel (holly family steel, not sure on sp or word for that matter) and a ceramic coating.

also its a series 1 rb25

All RB turbo engines have ceramic exhaust wheels with the exception of the special RB26DETT N1 spec GTR turbos which have steel turbine wheels.

The late (series 2) RB25DET turbos also have a plastic composite compressor wheel to help them spool faster however its the ceramic exhaust wheel that is the weak area on all of the turbos (with the exception of the N1).

I was looking around. Someone told me the 25's exhaust impellers from the R34 were steel, but it looks like they were wrong after doing some research. Unless you got a turbo someone had rebuilt with steel impellers... I'd say the ones you have are ceramic.

Someone who knows a lot about the 25's (I mostly spend time with the 20) can probably help more than I can help you.
