I searched the forums and there wasn't any info about when one should kick their stock tires. How long should one use the stock tires for (Miles/Months)? I just hate the stock ones right now. I want to get rid of them but at the same time I just wanna get the most out of what I have right now. Thanks for the input...

if you are waitin for them to be worn out then id change them at about 3yr/36,000 mile or if the treadwear indicators are showin, im sure you could baby the tires and stretch em to 50,000 miles, but that depends on your drivin style, as for replacement im a fan of Toyo Proxes, but thats your own call,

also thinking about on the side of the tire there is a spot where it says "TREADWEAR" which will be followed by a number, now this is not scientific or anything but you can roughly take that number and multiply it by 100, so like on the side of my turanza's it says "TREADWEAR 260" so these tires should be good for about 26,000 miles or so

Well I've gone roughly 20,000 miles on them already... So I doubt that anyone would want to buy them off of me. Also I was talking to my co-worker and he was telling me he has new all-seasons Continentals. He said he would give me a good deal on them. Problem is that the specs for the tires are 215/50/17. I know the fit for the stock tires are 215/55/17. I was wondering would it be ok for me to get those and put them on my car?

those tires would work fine. the 55 on the tire size is the aspect ratio of the tire it means the the tires sidewall height is 55percent of the width which is 215 millimeters. so the sidewall height is 118.25mm. on the 50 series tire the sidewall height is 107.5mm so the difference between the two is only 10.75 mm , so if you take that number multiply it by 2 to account for the top of the tire and the botton of the tire you get 21.5 mm take that divide it by 25.4 mm and you get the the overall diameter difference in inches which is 0.846 inches which is not enough to make your car mad, at 60mph your car will say you are goin about 62-64mph when in fact you are going 60

Great explanation Flick... Got me to be more informed to what I would be getting into. One more thing I was wondering is since the sidewall is going to be smaller than the stock ones wouldn't there be some sort of gap between the stock rim and the sidewall. Just something I was concerned about...

no there would be no gap between the rim and the tire because they are both 17's .. id say if you can get the 50 series tires go for it, assuming the tires have the same grip or better then the stock tires, with switching to the 50 series tires your car will sit 10.75 mm closer to the ground and you will get less tire roll so your car will handle better. SO DO IT

Okies I might go ahead and plunge in... As I was searching TireRack I came across these http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...urvey. What do you think Flick, Ultra High Performance All Season Continentals, or those Yokos?

those look like a good all season tire, i would probabally go for the yoki's but just a heads up you could also go with a 225/50R17 which would set you up 10mm wider and would maintain your stock ride height within a couple of millimeters. and from what im seeing other people on this forum are running up to 245 widths on there tires and they dont seem to be having any rubbing problems, which i personally say the wider the tire the better. Also if you are looking for max grip try to get tires with a "Z" speed rating , they dont last as long, but they are awesome for the handling.
