Who makes the Contential Tires on the Versa? Some on this web site have had negative remarks about them. So far mine are fine. I do find thought that I have to do more controlled steering with this car. I have to keep my eyes on the road at all times due to the tendence for the car to wander, not much but it is there. I was totally spoiled with my Maxima that had Michelin Tires and held a straight line with ease.

The shorter wheelbase will make this car a little squirelly. This size car is great for city driving and twisty roads, but a little movement of the steering wheel can cause it to twitch more than a longer car. The Mini is really bad about that.

I recently bought myself some new tires AND wheels for my Versa SL. I really don't care for the Continental Tires because they wear out fast and that they just don't perform well.

Continental makes the tires. I don't like the tires, although they do work for now. I find that the tires easily slip on slightly moist pavement. Now the tires are starting to change an orangish color after only having the car for 2 months. All of the cheap tires that I've had in the past did the same thing when you didn't keep a tire protectant on it constantly. This never happened when I paid a little bit extra for higher quality tires.

Yeah these Continential tires are cheap, one of the areas Nissan /dealers used to save a buck on the V, a month after I got them I hit a wet spot I was going 25-30 mph did a 180 slide stayed planted though no thanks to the Continentials..

The stock tires are terrible. They need to be replaced as they have NO traction on a hint of rain or snow. I have slid and lost control on more than one occasion. I am replacing the tires with better ones.

I have to disagree about the continentals in the snow. I found that mine performed exceptionally well in the snow. Its more on damp or even dry pavement that I find a bit of slippage. Overall tho I don't seem to mind them as much as others on here. Although I suspect that when I do change them I will appreciate the difference.

That is NOT an uncommon trait for Top Of The Line Michelins. I've seen vehicles that constantly pull one way or other and the steering wheel is not straight. A switch to Michelins (such as the HyrdoEdge) and everything corrects itself. Sometimes it is easiest/cheapest to have the dealer install alternate tires before the car is delivered. I was pleasantly surprised by the credit they gave me for the OEM tires on my wife's Sebring when we switched out to the Michelin HydroEdge.

I run the Michelin X-Ice in the winter on my current turbocharged PT Cruiser. Very impressive all around for noise, ride, traction, etc. They too track like an arrow. I can often let go of the steering wheel for a half kilometer or more without correction. Makes the car very relaxing to drive.

After hearing the less than favourable comments above the Continentals on the Versa, I'm thinking I should request a switch out to the Michelin HydroEdge's before I pick up the car on May 1st. They're an incredibly quiet tire, especially in the rain. NONE of the normal swishshshsh sound you normally hear. It's just like driving on dry pavement and wet traction really is amazing. Although not a TRUE snow tire, the HydroEdge is also rated an 8 for snow traction. In most winter circumstances, they're fine.

It's all a "get what you pay for scenerio" . Of course the Michilins on the $35k Maxima are going ot perform better... they are performance touring tires. This is a economy car. It has... wait for it... economical tires. They don't seem any worse than the cheap tires that came with my '03 Corolla.

I'm going to put about 15-20k miles on mine before I upgrade.

First of all, Continental AG owns the world speed record on production tires.

Second of all, the company was formed in 1871, must be doing something right, especially these days where only quality survives.

From my understanding of Michelin HydroEgdes, they're only good in the rain and are terrible in the snow.

Nissan is the only company to offer 16" tires on a sub-compact car and they're rated ALOT higher than the competitions at that.

stop whining.

I forgot to mention that they supply the tires for most Mercedes Benz and BMWs in Germany.

They are alos the choice of many motorcyclists, including STOCK on ALL BMW motorcycles...

Trust me, as a biker, you need to trust your tires.

Coming from Seattle...where both rains a lot, and, in the last two months, snows a lot....I have to disagee. My V does fine in each.

Chillax man, statistics are just that, statistics. These tires are horrible in wet conditions PERIOD. Just because a company has been around long with great products does not mean that they cannot have 1 or even more crappy products. I mean look at Sony! They make some good home surround systems, but when it comes to car audio they are crap. I don't care if they hold every tire record in the world, I still say these are the sh**iest tires that I have ever driven on!

I can't let a tire thread pass without putting in a word for Bridgestone! The Turanza's are great all season tires, especially in the rain, and the Blizzack's are the best ice tire going. My one experience with Michelin's is that they were very hard rubber and hence did not grip the road surface well. (Take this with a grain of salt: I can't remember which Michelin model they were).

Thanks for the head's up about the Conti's being poor wet tires. Its the dry season in Panama so I haven't driven in the rain yet. About two years ago I did test those Turanza's in the rain in Oregon. It was pouring and there was at least 1/8 inch of water still on the road surface. I hit the brakes at around 60mph and: no hydroplaning; it almost felt like dry pavement!

The tire, the car, driving situations, and how the driver drives the car all determine what makes a good quality tire. So to one person, the tire may be crap in their traffic use while the another finds it perfect for their country road use. Continentals may not be the best on the V in general (although very decent), but the same tire may be perfect for a Mazda 6. Michelin's are a well known name and generally make good tires, but after going through 7 tires on my truck in almost 3 years I've determined that the tires suck for may application. I switched to BF Goodrich which hasn't caused me any problems or even show signs of wear So really companies can be known for making good tires, be a big name, use good materials, charge a lot of money, but their tires may not work well for you. There's no magic tire that's good for everyone, all cars, in all situations. A tire expert would be able to help anyone find the best tire that will fit your needs.

My Versa came with the All Season Continentals. Is this the same tire that all Versas come with our is it just a regional thing? ( I bought a car in SC once that came with Summer tires)

This is standard all across the board.

Except in Canada. They get everything. They get 18" Kumho's. j/k They get the continentals also.

The Continentals on the V are decent enough for me so far, but I have a few complaints that some of you have already mentioned.

1. They get way too dirty and are not the most attractive tires in the world. 2. They are pretty bad in snowy and icy conditions, even though that is not entirely the fault of the tires.3. Their grip is ok, but not great.

I just can't wait until I get my new rims with 18" Pirelli all-seasons, I'm sure that will make a huge difference.

you're just all over the place...

first you're stating your own opinion, and you can tell you're just being loud and that you want to comment on everything.

But then you're agreeing with proxim, because he was the first one to make a clever statement in this thread, even though he didn't say anything that agreed with what you said in your first post.

This isn't Sony branching into the car audio business...this is continental doing what they do, MAKING TIRES.

I don't think, in Germany, where Mercedes and BMW come stock with continentals and they have the Autobahn that continental makes ****ty tires. I grew up in the Netherlands, neighbour to Germany and we get a lot ****ty rainy *** weather there. Right now, I'm in Halifax (Canada), we're getting dumped on by mother nature with about 10inches of snow tonight, and tomorrow morning I'm going to drive up my 25 degree driveway, up my 30 degree road and go to work....ON MY STOCK TIRES, because I did it this winter already and it'll happen again.

I'm sick and tired of your whiny "I got an opinion on everything" ***..
