I was just wandering if anyone knew what the stock tint is on a 2008 Altima Coupe 3.5SE (if there is any). I was planning on getting my windows tinted this weekend and was thinking of going with 35% which is the legal limit in Washington. I don't want to go too much past that if I can help it.

I think thats pretty close to the legal limit here in florida too, but i went with 15% all around. Ive had it tinted for several months now and i havent had in run-ins with the police. I love the dark tint tho, im glad i didnt go any lighter.

As far as stock tint, i dont believe its factory installed, im pretty sure its a dealer option. If it did have any it wouldnt be much, probably around 75% or so.

I would say about 95% of all automotive glass has a slight bit of tint. If you look the edge it will generally be green or blue - no automotive glass - except on maybe a really but naked base model car - comes comletely clear. The factory doesnt install tint - the glass is made that way - my car and your car has probably 97% glass tint (not an add on film - like aftermarket).

This is why 35% "legal" tint is somewhat of a misnomer. The film may be 35% but once you install it on a car (which already has 3% glass) the result is somewhat darker. If your 35% aftermarket tinted windows were tested with a light meter - they will be somewhat less than 35%. My fronts tested between 32-33%.

If you look closely - like at the parts where you can see the van - you can get an idea of what 35% looks like. You can still see in the car - but keep in mind I have a black interior so it may look a little darker.

Cool, thanks for the info. I thinkg there's a + or - 3% margin here so that should be perfect. Although I wouldn't mind going darker. My brother in law has 5% all around and has never had any trouble...

Actually vehicles can come from the factory with tint on them. It is possible, we actually have cars in our showroom with 75% on the front and 35% in the rear and we get them straight from the factory.

Reread my post - I'm saying just about all cars come with tinted glass. But I don't know of any that have tint film applied at the factory. My Dodge Ram for example like most trucks and SUVs has dark tinted glass from the factory - but the tint is actually in the glass not an add on film.

Which cars are you talking about that come with 75% on the front?
