I need some help with the wiring on my stock stereo.

We just bought a new radio/reciever but the plugs aren't the same (duh).

Now I need to find the specific wiring schematic for the radio - and I'm having trouble with it.

My ride is a 1996 240sx.

Thanks for any help

if you just need a wire schematic its in the FSM search for it on this site. if your going to cut the factory harness out of your car i beg you not to. this is the best way i know of to put a factory stereo in a car it dosent belong in. first you need to go to the audio store (try best buy thay take back open packages), bring your new factory stereo with you. find the wiring pigtail that goes in your current ride, should be plug and play on one side and wires on the other. you will need this so go ahead and buy it. now find the wiring pigtail that fits your new stereo, sometimes the guys know where it came from (thay see alot of factory stereos) thay should be able to help you figure it out. of course thay wont have the end that plugs into the radio but thay should have a pigtail that looks the same as the back of the radio, go ahead and buy this one but know you will be returning it so dont distroy the packaging. read that package and it should give you a list of cars that have that plug. now you just have to go to the local J/Y and cut the radio harness out, using the pigtail your going to return as a wire guide wire the radio harness into the pigtail for your car making a wire bridge. plugs on both sides. return the pigtail you didnt use and enjoy your radio.

go to any radio shop and ask for "metra part number 70-7550" then you need to buy some wire connectors and a wire crimper.

Yeah, I guess I just need the schematic - not good on navigating this site - what is FSM?

Also, I don't think I was too clear.

The car came with it's own original radio - Clarion PN9731C

I just bought a new JVC to replace it with. However, the old harness that goes to the Clarion radio does not match up with my new JVC.

That's why I need a wiring schematic (with labels) preferrably one that shows which wire goes to what item - so that I can do my own splicing for the new set-up.

I like your idea - should I still do that, or is the schematic all I need?

if the radio that is in it now is the original and you are simply installing an off the shelf aftermarket than you just need the radio pigtail for your car, any audio shop should carry one, just go and ask.

FSM = Factory Service Manualthere should be some on this site, use the search button in the upper right hand side of the web page or click on the search tab in the row of buttons just under where it says NICOclub.com

Thank you very much!!! Wish I had realized how simple it was before I tried it on my own.

You can rest assured - the next time I want to do my own thing, I will check on this site first.

You guys Rock!!!
